In this thread, we are going to talk about Richard Buckner. NB: I have whiskey and the stereo remote and I am posting.

I listened to Devotion + Doubt so much on a road trip that my traveling buddy, who hated him on first listen, tried to cover some of those songs when we lived together a year or so later. Note this was at least a year or two before many in the younger set developed an appreciation of alt country.

I once tried to see him play in Austin during SXSW. We were drunk when we got to the show and there was this guy with sort of longish hair and a sort of beard on stage and I turned to my girlfriend and said 'great, we didn't miss him.' Then he started playing Destroyer songs and I thought wow, Richard Buckner sure looks and sounds a lot like Dan Bejar when he covers Destroyer songs.

Richard Buckner made a record with the drummer from fucking Tortoise!

And finally, Richard Buckner can apparently talk black metal with the best of them.

I'll update this periodically when I have whiskey and more Richard Buckner stories in the future.

Do you have to have whiskey?
And can you tell me what it means to "talk black metal"?

Whiskey is key. This is alt country we're talking abut.

And can you tell me what it means to "talk black metal"?

From what I hear, Richard Buckner knows more abuot black metal than your average singer-songwriter.

So what kind of whiskey? I'm a bourbon person myself, although I don't mind George Dickel when push comes to shove...

Lately, it's been the cheap Heaven Hill bourbon, and the way things are going, it's going to stay that way for a while.

>shudders<
You should at least get Old Crow; that way you can caw for it.
