I feel that the original cd's that came out back in the day usually lack something in the artwork/liner notes department, but not necessarily so much in the sound quality department. I will seek out a remastered cd if I don't already own it, but I don't go back into my collection and re-buy stuff.
the thing i love about re-issues is the extra tracks. and i definitely think there is usually an improvement in sound quality.
although, one example i can think of where i think the original recording is better is iggy and the stooges - raw power. i don't like the new mix at all.
i usually prefer the originals. rarely do i think that remastered editions sound that much better, nor do i really care for extra songs - they tend to hurt the continuity of an album, as i always end up turning them off once it gets to the "original" end.
one instance, however, where i really enjoyed a remastered edition was when converge re-released when forever comes crashing. it just sounds SO much better. steve austin sucks at production.

Holy mackeral, I absolutely LOVE Iggy's remix of Raw Power
yeah i will usually buy it twice... but ya gotta love bonus tracks or alternate artwork....plus if the original sounded like asshole then usually it sounds a shitload better when it's put together right.
