Remember Electronic? I'm sure you do. Johnny Marr of the Smiths and Bernard Sumner of New Order formed a band that managed to sound a lot like their two former bands playing at the same time.
A casual project, Electronic debuted with the single "Getting Away With It" in 1989. The tune was a hit (you definitely saw it on MTV's 120 Minutes back then) and inspired the two to actually make an album; a self-titled disc that was released two years later in 1991.
What you probably don't know is that Electronic actually released two more albums over the years; 1996's Raise the Pressure and 1999's Twisted Tenderness. With seven years gone, it's evidently a good time for a "Best Of" compilation to appear. Get the Message: The Best of Electronic collects thirteen tracks that you may or may not remember.
'Forbidden City'
'Getting Away With It'
'Get the Message' (Single Mix)
'Feel Every Beat'
'Disappointed' (Single Mix)
'Vivid' (Radio Edit)
'All That I Need'
'For You'
'Imitation of Life' (New Edit)
'Out of My League'
'Like No Other'
'Twisted Tenderness'
'Late At Night' (Radio Edit)
The album will be released on September18. It's a given that Smiths and New Order fanatics will hunt it down, but what about the rest of us? At the very least it can be filed alongside the countless Smiths and New Order compilations and reissues that have appeared over the years. They should start to give those things away with Ikea CD racks.
Twisted Tenderness was an amazing album! I want new stuff!
(as a note: here in Portland, OR, Gustav gave the first single from Raise The Pressure heavy airplay when it was released, so - yes - some of us knew about the other albums)
