In the time that Florida's Against Me! has been around, they've enjoyed a whirlwind of irony and success. Singing anti-establishment anthems in basements in the early part of this decade led to an enormous cult following and an inevitable backlash as the band grew, played larger venues and signed to a larger label. The success culminated in some opening slots on Green Day's recent stadium tour.

Stadium stages are a far cry from basements with no PA system, but what's a punk to do? It was genuinely endearing to see Green Day, who experienced the same trajectory in the early 1990's, help a newer band along.

That said, 2006 will prove to be another busy year for Against Me!. Right now, the band is wrapping up their stint on Warped Tour. After that, they are heading right off to Europe for the Reading Festival as well as Belgium's Pukkelpop Festival. In addition to all of this, Against Me! is also on the cusp of releasing its first live album, called Americans Abroad!!! Against Me!!! Live in London!!!. Look for that on August 22.

For the vinyl nerds, you'll be able to cop that live album as a double LP if you're too rustic for digital media. Finally, you can see what all the fuss is about and why kids make it a point to travel far to see these guys. The material on this collection is from the band's recent UK tour with Murder By Death.

And, yes. There's a reason to buy this even if you've seen the band; the as of yet unreleased track, "Americans Abroad", will be included in all its glory. Up the punx!

Im not a fan, but these guys are pretty loyal to their roots. I live in Gainesville, where they are from, and they play here every few months and always at the same club they played in before they got big. Gotta respect that.

You know, as much as I was disappointed by the most recent album and wish that they'd go back to the less-polished sound of Reinventing Axl Rose, fuck if these guys aren't still one of the greatest bands currently together. They're good people, and I wish them naught but the best.

If you ever, ever get a chance to see them, don't miss it. I've seen them probably about 10 times, from tiny anarcho-punk venues in Athens, GA to one of the biggest venues in Portland, OR.

The best live show I have ever seen in my entire life was them with Whiskey & Co. back in the summer of '03.

I love Against Me! I don't care if they have signed to a major, as long as they don't fuck up their sound.
