The Arcade Fire's redheaded frontman has made his last post for a while. With the second album in the homestretch, Win Butler came up for air to toss out a few teasers:
yea the pipe organ was amazing... never heard anything quite like it, we also recorded a horn section in the church with microphones 200 feet away with the craziest reverb I have ever heard...
we finished all the string section stuff with sarah and owen which was as inspiring as ever... we talked about a lot of ideas for orchestration, and regine and him (owen) are trading midi files trying to get 3 songs arranged for late august...
For those of you who have trouble harnessing "the craziest reverb" you have ever heard in your imaginations, let alone channeling the "craziest reverb" Win has ever heard, the more tangible piece of news is that the band have decided to produce themselve. Self production is good news if you thought production on Funeral was more than adequate. If you didn't, you should write an angry letter.
Speaking on the decision, Win had this to say:
After trying to decide if we would work with any producers we kind of realised that we already know how we want things to sound so we would just run after that sound as fast as we can and not rely on someone else to guide the goodship arcade fireĀ at least for now...
Not that they haven't had offers. Bob Johnston, whose credits include Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, and Simon & Garfunkel, needs no interview, yet popped up to Montreal to pay the crew a visit. The stories they heard are apparently unprintable.
The goodship is unlikely to sink with two celebrated engineers at the helm: Scott Colburn (Animal Collective's Feel) and Marcus Dravs (Bjork's Homogenic).
