I'm lost
November 2005

SEP 18, 2008 06:00 PM

Obsessive or Compulsive or Neurotic about many things, but it was just pointed out to me that...

everytime, everytime I am in Target or the Market, I spend about $12 in sponges.

Guess, I hate dirty sponges and love these new shapes, sizes and colors.

I cannot eat lunch on workdays with others. I get social anxiety to the max if my cathartic chewing of tasty things is interrupted.

I am not sure if I exhibit any specific traits but whenever my brother turns the lights off in a room he has to flick the switch on and off several times and when he removes his shoes he taps them both in a circular motion on the ground before setting them down.

Oh...ifI eat with friends I cover my mouth with my hand when I chew....kind of weird I guess.

I do the same thing. I cannot stand for people to look at me while I'm eating, so I do this if they're talking to me.

I check my alarm clock and cell alarm about ten times each night before I go to bed.

I tend to check my alarms numerous times before I sleep also...the problem with me is that half the time I sleep through them anyways

I obsessively clean my room if I find one thing "out of place" ... and the definition of "out of place" changes from day to day.

I color coordinate the icons on my iPhone so all similar colored apps are grouped together.

There are a ton more but I just can't think of them right now...

Interesting! Sounds kind of like a fascination with symmetry.

Oh god. I just realized that I do that, too. It's more of a ritual than a compulsion, though.

I regularly misuse the term "OCD" to mean something other than a medical condition. It's weird, but I can't help it.

I slowly count to ten every time someone does that.

I'm OCD, right ?

Educate yourself before claiming to have a disorder.

Buying sponges is far from OCD. OCD rarely has almost absolutely nothing to do with being a neat freak or a perfectionist.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

My little sister washed her hands until the skin fell off and she would be covered in blood to her elbows. She's much much better now, but we used to have to physically restrain her or she would be at it again, scrubbing her skin away with a brillo pad, getting up in the middle of the night to stand alone in the bathroom washing herself over and over again.

I don't think that hypersensitivity is necessarily warranted when people blatantly misuse terminology (and I don'e think anyone has been hypersensitive in this thread) which refer to sometimes painful and handicapping disorders, I just think it makes them look pretty stupid when they do.
