Len Wiseman is living every comic book geeks dream. Not only did he direct a very successful film, Underworld which had vampires AND werewolves, he has a beautiful home on the beach with one entire room dedicated to his action figures but every night he gets to go home to his fiancé, Selene the Death Dealer herself, Kate Beckinsale.
Underworld was a fairly low budget studio film which Sony did not have expectations for that is until it became Sony.com's most downloaded trailer in their history...
This was a good interview, I loved the movie. I was going to go out and pick up the DVD but seeing this I will wait til it comes to Director's Cut. Underworld 2? Hmm I hope it isn't like Matrix 2. Sometimes it's good for a movie to step down with grace instead of falling on it's face... damn rhymning.
that was one of the worst movies i have ever seen. the acting was terrible, story was week, and it didn't even look all that great. people i know were reciting lines from it, and getting laughs, for weeks.
I highly suggest he work with a good writer and an acting coach on set for his next film.
I loved the movie and I really dug Wiseman in the DVD (I'm saddened to hear that a second director's cut DVD is in the works...as I already bought the initial one). I also adore Kate Beckinsale, and having read this interview makes me appreciate and like Wiseman even more (could he be the next Fincher? or Schumacher?)
Either way, great interview (although it might not hurt to have the grammar police proof it). Good job!
Underworld is a great movie but yes it has its' flaws. As a conceptual it is much better then what the acting offers. And he is a lucky man pullin Kate Beckinsale out of this on top of a cool film. I read her interview also. She seems like loads of fun. Definately a girl with an edge. I'll be lookin forward to Underwold2.
By some kind of cosmic coincidence, I watched Underworld for the first time the night before I read this interview. I liked the movie, especially the atmosphere and the camera work in the film. Looking forward to whatever Wiseman decides to work on next....
I thought this movie was done pretty well. As a young kid i was all into the vampire/werewolf shit. I liked in the beginning how Kate Beckinsale walks off the ledge and lands. It shows how vampires can be extraordinarily powerful without being so unhuman. I also like the makeup job on the werewolves, once again they were made to look powerful while still adhering to humanity to base an existance off of. One thing i did not like about the film (constructive critisism) was how easily the Lycans were dispatched. Of all the lore i came across - and trust me, there is a great deal - werewolves were faster, much faster. And although the silver thing makes sense, i don't believe they would die off in such a speedy manor. All in all though, a good movie and an excellent profile for a realistic vampiric subculture
I enjoyed this interview. I liked the film. No, it wasn't an earthshattering drama or something that torqued my worldview like the first Matrix film. But it was a good, fun, dark flick.
I read the interview all the way to the bottom. Sounds like he has a good sense of humor, and doesn't take himself too seriously. I can respect that.
