Here's my dilema. I'm trying to quit smoking, since recently I found out I might have some heart issues (i'm 27...I'm getting fucking robbed.by the way) but I really want a cigarette bad. I'm so fucking tempted to walk to the store and buy some delicious cancer rods. But I don't want to drop dead doing it.
Bill Hicks said it best when he discribed how it was after he quit "every cigarette looks like it was made by god, rolled by jesus and sealed shut with Claudia Schiffer's pussy"

I know, so is that quote. But delicious, sort of like anything by hostess. I don't, I listen to the stereo.

I don't really understand...granted I am a nonsmoker...I never started because I know smoking can kill you...now you have a bad heart, it is killing you and will kill you way to young...
what is the problem? whats more addictive, smoking or life???

People say I don't know how hard it is to quit smoking. Sure I do. It's as hard as it is to START flossing.

well I don't know if I'm going to die. I just started having heart arythmias. Of course the doc said "quit smoking" which they say even if you show up with only a stubbed toe. I know it's bad for my body (the little I have) and i want to quit, but damn is it hard.

My roommate just quit on the patch. He said as bad as it was the first month it was terrible thereafter. Mentally he though, ok, I proved I can quit now I can start up again because I know I can stop whenever I want.

He didn't start againthough. He's three months strong now.

Smoking.

no doubt. I'd probably have sex with anyone right now, just to have the cigarette afterwards. That's how stupidly addictive it is.

oh well if you don't know if you are going to die...just ignore the arythmias until you have a heart attack or something a little more decisive....

I'm in the same boat, I think the liquor has to go on hiatus as well for a while if it's gonna work. That and the ritual of the habit ie. after meals, sex, long drives, automatic 5min break, avoiding issues etc.... I'm using the patch again but full strength this time so I can't rationalize away the danger. Of course I type this as I feverishly smoke what may be one of my last parliaments. Perhaps we'll both look back at this like 0.85 gas, and know that we milked it for what is was worth at the time. good luck

If ya don't mind my asking, what's the matter with your heart? I have a bit of a bad ticker as well, but I continue to smoke....though I shouldn't. But smoking keeps me from drinking, so it's delicious.

That would be like driving a flaming car into a gas station for a fill up just because it needed gas. I'm just saying, damn it's hard right now. Even though I know I could SERIOUSLY be fucking something up by going and buying a pack, my stupid body is telling me too. I'm not going to though. My body can kiss my (it's) ass.

I have no idea. I had two cases of SVT (a sudden heart rate of over 150bpm) in the past month. All the doctor found out is that I have an irregular heart rate and she needs to do a stress test to find out if there's anything really wrong. I'm having that done wednesday.

If I was going to die tomorrow, my last request would probably be a pack of smokes. (I'm a smoker.) If a doctor told me my heart was failing, I would have no problem never smoking again. Cigarettes are very addictive and quitting is difficult, but I think that the priority here is obvious.

Let's just say "the good outweighs the bad."

I know this doesn't help at the moment, and if you are like most smokers, you probably already went and grabbed that pack. But my advice is to get hypnotized.
I know it sounds weird. And granted it might be, but it works. I have friends that have done this for their nic addiction and they have not started smoking again, my mum did it for dieting and it worked for about 3 years, and I did it for drinking, and it worked for a solid 10 years.

If you are serious I would look into this.

The patch is annoying. mad
The gum taste awful. puke
And not having it when it is the foremost thought in your head is defeatist. blackeyed

nope, havn't gone and grabbed those smokes. I think because it's 20 degrees outside, snowing with a cherry on top that stopped me. Which is sad because my health should be the reason.
