Sarah Vowell is supremely talented, hilarious, and adorably geeky. Her new book, "Assassination Vacation", is a fantastic read. In case you aren't familiar, she discusses the events surrounding the assassinations of Lincoln, Garfield, and McKinley, while visiting sites related to the principals involved.
I heard her read today, and I was both star struck and seriously crushing on her.

All of her books are highly entertaining, though "Radio On" is sort of a slog.

There's a little video-essay by her in the features section of The Incredibles DVD. There's a funny bit where they animated her character, Violet, to audio of her shooting a cannon with her dad.

She told the story of her dad's cannon on "This American Life" and it was in "Take the Cannoli". It was pretty interesting.

Sarah Vowell thread. Must post. And then find out if she's coming to a local bookstore. I was so happy about how they gave her a special feature on The Incredibles. Hell, I was thrilled that they thought to cast her in The Incredibles.

First time I saw Sarah on tee-vee (Conan O'Brien, I think), my friend Tony was sitting next to me. When the interview was over, he turned... waited... then pointed at me and taunted in a sing-song voice "ROBert's iiNN LOOve!"

And, y'know? He was right. Went out and bought Take the Cannoli the next day. Just something about her voice + her cynicism... gah. Crap, time to go clean myself off now.

Didn't say I was a fan. But I liked the cannon story about how she bonded with her gun-nut dad. I've never really heard or read anything else by her.

She likes Lincoln. Most people do. A few expections, though (and I think they're dipshits) http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig2/lincoln-arch.html

Just to let you know, the bonding with her gun-nut dad goes against most of her other views. She is most definitely a liberal. smile

Saw her last night on The Daily Show. It was hilarious! Stewart did the voice of Garfield in the audio book, and their give and take was great.

But I kept waiting for the Odie joke that never came.

wink
