What disease would you like to see cured, and why? I'm taking a class on epidemiology and therapies right now, and I was interested in seeing what your opinions might be.

And no, SG addiction does not count as a disease............

Hmm, Let's see: Even though I have psoriasis and it is a fucking huge pain in my ass, serious things like Aids and Cancer need to be cured before anyting else. These should take priority.

Cancer - I've watched too many people die from it. The slow hospice-at-home death is just too much to take.

This was a hard question. As I was typing that, I thought of two more. frown

Deffinitly cancer. I've lost way too many people to it, one of which was in his 20's and probably one of the most talented people I've ever met... would have done great things. Fuck.

I'd say cancer, especially the virulent, fast-killing types such as pancreatic or certain forms of lung, or the particularly disfiguring ones like breast and head-and-neck. And melanoma, which is picking up. Any of the childhood cancers.

Another one: amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease). Not so common, but heartbreaking.

I would imagine cancer would take this one by a landslide. Lost some relatives to it already. Probably more to come.

If I had a choice, I would like to be different than what I am... but I can't change yesterday.

I'd like to see a cure for AIDS. AIDS or herpes. Or Jared, that Subway guy.

Honestly, not so many of the diseases should be cured. It's a part of life and havinglost some people that were very important to me to some of the biggies, I'd have to say that it taught me some important things. Life is precious, but so is the inevitable death that comes from with it. Sounds cheesy, but it's true.

Watching my grandfather writhe in wordless agony for three weeks despite a morphine drip that, if even a few milligrams stronger, would've killed him, because of cancer -- at 67 years old -- was not precious.

makes a good point- about drug companies needing to keep diseases going.- so they can just medicate you n not actually cure you.

I would have to say AIDS and Cancer. I have lost several people in my life to both of these diseases and one of the best people in my life to both. I used to (and hope to start again) volunteer at an AIDS hospice and it was a wonderful/terrible experience.
