Hee hee. IÂ’m just kidding yÂ’all. Right-wing shock idiot Michael Savage doesnÂ’t think that activists should be put into a poorly-reviewed torture porn opus. Rather, he wishes that certain activists who participated in a hunger strike for immigrant rights should die. Seriously.

Bay Area immigrant rights advocates say radio host Michael Savage should be fired for using hateful language when suggesting supporters of an immigration reform bill who fasted in San Francisco's Civic Center Plaza last week should starve to death.

During a July 5 broadcast of "The Savage Nation," his nationally syndicated talk show, Savage said, "I would say let them fast till they starve to death ... because then we won't have a problem about giving them green cards because they're illegal aliens."

Well, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking that the protesters were probably a bunch of hippie San Francisco liberal pussies who want to open our borders and let a bunch of dirty Mexicans take our jobs. And if that’s the case, fuck ‘em for advocating amnesty. Let ‘em starve. Am I right?

Well, no.

The immigrant students fasted to show support for the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, which would make higher education or military service a part of the path to citizenship for young illegal immigrants. The DREAM Act was introduced in Congress in 2001 and most recently stalled in June as part of the Senate's hotly debated immigration reform bill.

In other words, they were arguing that young people who have marketable skills or prove their loyalty to America should have a shot at becoming citizens. How horrible!

Savage is just doing what he always does, of course. He stirs up controversy by advocating for the most vile and callous ideas, and by defending the indefensible. This isnÂ’t much different than anyone else who deals in shock. After all, no one has ever gone broke playing to stupid peopleÂ’s baser instincts. That said, even among the vast intellectual wasteland that are the right-wing political radio smut-peddlers, Savage is one of a kind.

Here are a sampling of some of his more intelligent tidbits:

"The next time you’re in your backyard grilling hot dogs, don’t be surprised if your Korean neighbor is actually grilling his dog. That’s the way things are done in Korea.”

"YouÂ’re the ones who did it. You liberals are the descendents of Adolf Hitler, only you donÂ’t know it. YouÂ’re the most dangerous people on planet Earth. I am your enemy. I am your worst nightmare. I will expose you. I know who you are and I know youÂ’re suicidal and IÂ’m going to expose you until this government acts finally to stop you. I am not kidding you. IÂ’m telling it as it is."

He called affirmative action "The Fairness for Dummies Act"

"We need another brave Senator, like McCarthy, whom history has proven to be a loyal patriot."

"I'm beginning to think that women should be denied the vote. Their hormones rage; they are too emotional."

Or how about some of his choicer thoughts on the tsunami disaster in 2004:

You could take the argument that it's God's will, it's too bad and let's move on. And then let others help them. They're not in our sphere of interest.
[Â…]
You could argue, maybe this is God's hand, because some of their brethren struck Christian America. Maybe God speaks the truth but waits. Seeks the truth and waits.
[Â…]
Many of the countries and the areas in these countries that were hit by these tidal waves were hotbeds of radical Islam. Why should we be helping them destroy us? ... I think what we're doing is feeding our own demise. ... I truthfully don't believe in foreign aid.
[...]
We shouldn't be spending a nickel on this, as far as I'm concerned. ... I don't want one nickel of my money going over there. ... I am sick of being bled to death by every damn incident on the earth.

So clearly, heÂ’s a very classy guy. While advocating the death of peaceful activists is (amazingly) not the worst thing the guy has said, one would think that someone as allegedly pro-free speech as Savage would have a little bit more sympathy for folks who are exercising their constitutional rights. I guess those who chose to speak freely are only worthy of praise (or, in this case, life) if he agrees with their message. What else is new?

Of course at base, Savage is simply another hate-filled idiot intent on lowering the bar for civilized debate ever further that it already has been. HeÂ’s a parasite on our national dialogue, leeching off whatever shred of rationality and compassion may remain within it. And thatÂ’s fine. Everyone has a part to play, I suppose. His part is legitimizing lunacy and hate.

SavageÂ’s remarks arenÂ’t getting the national ink that ImusÂ’ did, so I doubt he has to worry about losing his job. But wouldnÂ’t it be nice if he had to worry about a pink slip not because of this idiocy but because people got fed up with this garbage and stopped listening?

Well, Stormfront.org has about 200k members, and Idaho has a population of around a million or so, right?

He has one of the more loyal and vocal followings on right-wing talk radio. He's like Rush Limbaugh, but, you know... more white, Christian and conservative.

I have heard his show once.

I cringed. And got angry. And decided that if I wanted to listen to someone who doesn't have a fucking clue about what he's talking about get all self righteous, I should just stick to ones that frequent our very own CE board. At least I can take a break from the stupidity to look at hot naked chicks every now and then.

I admit that I often listen to his radio show, but mostly because I loathe Savage and his fucked up ideas about our country. It helps me vent any negativity before I go work with children.

what a cack...using free speech and freed press to spread a message of hate is like using a using a meat cleaver to spread mortar, innapropriate and dangerous...not to mention insulting to those who know the proper use of such tools.

If you're going to enter the public forum and talk politics and history, you damn well better know what you are saying. How "Liberals" who are advocating special rights for immigrants are in any way related to a man who advocated limited right for ctitizens of his own country is mystery wrapper in a conundrum wrapped in another mystery wrapped in a rag soaked with this man's venom.

Sure, I feel like providing financial aide to illegal immigrants is rather unfair, but the act that he opposes provides them with the means to right a wrong that they themselves may not have even have known committed, if they immigrated with family. It also means that once they do become citizens they will have to means to remain productive citizens. Personally I find Savage's productivity fairly suspect myself...really what more is he than a mouth piece for ignorance and a great way to keep people listening to your station and your station's sponsors?

The look of his web site puts him about on par with the Westboro Baptist Church in my mind, only a little more flashy.
Like , he has all his teeth maybe.

See, I don't get this. When I listen to this stuff I get more agitated and usually want to punch someone afterward.

Of course, I often want to punch someone when i work with children too, so maybe I'm just the wrong person to ask about this.

Nah, I'm quite capable of leaving all my hate with Mr. Savage and not taking it into work. He's a deserving guy when it comes to my hate.

And my problem at work is that all of the kids (age 7-18) want to punch and attack all the staff, so I can sympathize with your feelings on working with the youth of america.

From his website:

Trained as a scientist, he holds Master's degrees in medical botany and medical anthropology and earned his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in Epidemiology and Nutritional Science. He spent decades searching and saving tropical rainforests.

Ok, that is almost certainly BS. Firstly I can't find any record of this guy writing a paper on rainforest conservation. Secondly how does having 3 medical degrees make you a conservationist in the first place?! I (almost) have a masters degree in Conservation myself, by this logic it would make me qualified to practice medicine because all science is apparently the same in the pea between this guys ears.

That is very interesting.
If you spent decades in the field doing research, as "searching and saving" implies you probably would have written thousands of papers, been published in scientific trade journals hundreds of times and probably written a few books. Wouldn't you ?
Shouldn't be too hard to find something.
