I'm considering getting my tongue pierced... this might seem kind of naive, but what are your thoughts on tongue piercings? pain factor? didja like it afterwards? good places to go to in Los Angeles or San Diego? thanks in advance... kiss

loved mine dearly. then it developed a big lump of keloid on the bottom that would not go away no matter what i did.. (after a year and a half of being perfectly fine, too.. weird...) so i took it out. but i love them.

they do, however, have the potential to chip your teeth.

and be real real careful choosing someone to do it.. it's super-hard to get it straight, and it looks funny if it's not.

I remember seeing a study saying that correlating tongue piercing with chipped teath. So basically if you like your teath perfect you might not want to do it.

As far as my piercing went, the pain factor was minimal...the actual piercing didn't hurt at all, just pressure on my tongue. The only discomfort I encountered was from the swelling and the need to use mouthwash after eating for a long while. It does take a bit of getting used to afterwards, mainly on eating to avoid biting the barbell. All in all, I've been happy with mine...I've had it for over a year without any problems.

I've had mine done for 4 years and have had no trouble...also..i'm a good friend of my dentists and he warned me of the chipped teeth thing...although i have had no problems with that (and believe me..he has just waited and waited to be able to point that out to me)...
the actual deal of getting the piercing is nothin big (for me the anxiety of walkin in and waiting was way worse)...the actual piercing for me was smooth and unbelievably wierd....the next morning is another story. it takes a while to get used to having..and its sore and swollen for a few days....i love mine though.
piercing is addictive though.. smile

Ok I'm not even sure if I should get started on this topic. I personally think everyone in the world should have this done hehe.

The chipped teeth thing can be a factor depending on how it is done. It is much more convenient to have it a little more towards the center of your tongue than the tip. (for girls this is a common placing while more at the tip for men never guess why)

Anyways, it is all dependent on the webbing of the under side of the tongue .. ie if the webbing under your tongue goes all the way to the tip of your tongue it is near impossible to get it pierced, but if not you are in luck yippie!

I have a 2guage in at the moment and have never chipped a tooth in 4 years of it. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that it isnt pierced at the tip of my tongue making it much more resilient to 'click' it onto the back of your teeth or bite on by accident ...

The pain and such really isn't that much of a factor ... You have to realize a majority of the nerves in your tongue are around the edges. So hurts more to get near the tip say than the dead center. When people try to imagine what it would feel like, I hear a lot of 'well I know what biting my tongue feels like, and I can only imagine ..' All I can say is that isnt a fair comparison and not acurate at all ... It is more like what the fizuck is this guy doing with my tongue in a pair of roach clips .. omg im drooling .. yer done??? cool!

As far as piercings being addictive I have to TOTALLY agree ... tongue was my second then a couple weeks and 20 something piercings later I was getting asked to do a Savage mag layout and boom I realized I was going either A) never make it through an airport security again or B) tone it down a little biggrin

Wow! Thank you... one question: when you say the webbing.. whaddya mean xactly? There's 3 veins (um, I think they're veins) that I can see on the underside of my tongue... one thin one down the middle, and then two angling towards the tip on each side... all three go to the end... can I still get my tongue pierced?
confused whatever

no it doesn't hurt, unless you get a piercer that got his peircing liscence out of a cereal box and has no clue what they're doing

i think it's a great piercing to have... i forget i have one a lot of the time though... it's a bitch to eat with at first though, you'll probably bite it a lot

o.k. by webbing I mean the thin piece of stuff that attaches your tongue to the underpart of your mouth. It is hardly noticable for some people (like me) and those people can stick their tongues out way far typically. Those with webbing to the tip usually can't stick their tongue out past their bottom teeth (obviously not born a womanizer hehe)

SO in other words it isnt very common to have that 'webbing' to the tip just happens for some. If you can see those three veins then you most likely have nothing to worry about as it sounds like yours isn't promenant.

email me if ya have some more like place specific questions and such wink

I'll try to conjure up some pics on the web for reference for ya

Mine healed in three days. I smoke. Rinse with listerine, and you should be fine. Get a shorter one when its not swollen. I broke my tooth (it was a temp. cap anyway) in the first week cause I was eating gummy bears. If your aware of it you wont bite down - If your worried about chipping your teeth - get a flexi barbell. I have had no problems with mine (almost 5 years) so far *knock on wood* and its a fun toy to play with when your bored... and dont have a smoke...

It's normal to have swelling and some discharge in the first few days. Do a sea salt gargle or a non-alcohol mouthwash after ever single time you eat, drink or smoke. Give it about a week and a half before you attempt really chewing food again. I recommend mashed potatoes, soup, applesauce and ice cream during this time. Then be very careful not to bite down on the bar since you have been pierced with a bar far longer than what you will eventually wear to accomodate the swelling.

A week and a half? I was eating normal food in about 3 days when I got mine done, and even quicker after getting venoms. (Yep, the venoms healed a lot faster... I'm guessing because my mouth was already used to beads rubbing around there.) Wow!

I had mine done about 3 years ago. I also had three labrets in at once. Once I took the labrets out I felt the tongue ring was just silly so I took that out too. It just seems like everyone has that piercing anymore.

Do not use listerine. And if you cannot find a mouthwash without alcohol then please please please dillute it with 1/2 water. You will dry out your piercing and irritate the hell out of it if you do not.
