Apparently I'm immune to vicodin. I just had my wisdom teeth (all 3 of them smile ) taken out yesterday and part of me was looking forward to being all wacked out on painkillers. First of all the whole thing was less painful than i'd expected. Secondly the drugs dont seem to do shit for the pain I do have.

I'm interested in hearing other people's painkiller stories if you'd care to share them. Anyone else unaffected or totally fucked up by them?

I just had mine taken out a few weeks ago. I hated the vicadin, it took it twice; the first time I was still bleeding so it didnt' bug me when it knocked me out. The next time I took it late at night though, and it made my entire body go numb and then I could feel my mind sinking into unconciousness; to the point that I was totally conciousness as I went out. It was fucking weird.

Good luck with the teeth; I'l give you one hint: don't clench your jaw. I was getting these blinding headahces and it later turned out it was all because I'd been clecnhing my jaw musckles in pain for over a week.

First of all, Dentists wont give you Vicodin, the best they can do is Lortab 500mg.(I know this first hand, and out of that 500mg,...there is maybe 25-30% codine per pill, the rest is asprin)

you should go see a specialist....he gave me Nitrous and Demerol......three weeks worth smile

edit to say I take about 6,000mg. of Vicodin everyday.

oral surgeons will perscribe vicodin.

acetomitiphin is not an anti-inflamitory, therefore dentists prefer ibuprofins.

Some medications work well for some people, and not for others. I had foot surgery a few weeks ago and they gave me percocet which did jack shit, even though the doctor said it was the strongest they had to give me. So he told me to take advil. I laid around in alot of pain for eight days until I got vicodin from the surgeon which worked a little better.

But it also took eight doses of morphine to shut me up in the hospital. surreal

When I got my wisdom teeth taken out, I had to get all 4 removed at once, they just gave me advil for that, too. We had to go to the store for a new bottle, as we figured they would have given me something else. whatever

All of you should be on hydrocodone, I don't understand why doctors are suddenly on this prescribing Vic kick the past year or so. Is some big drug company patent running out or something?

I have had oral surgery 3 or 4 times to remove teeth, and they always gave me tylenol3 (acetaminophen and codeine), every time.

Demerol is the only prescription pain killer that worked for me regularly when I went through a bout with cancer (lymphoma).

Before the official diagnosis, I was given Percocet. That didn't do anything, so they switched me to Vicodin. With no luck there, they finally switched me to Demerol, and I was finally able to sleep through the night.

After my biopsy surgery, I spent the night in the hospital for observation. Even the morphine drip left me in pain, but two demerol fixed that again.

When I was having intense attacks from a gallstone that the doctors either termed humongous or immense, they gave me Vicoden. It didn't work that well for me, and I was forced to take much more than was prescribed to get rid of the pain until I had surgery to remove my gallbladder. I would quadruple the dose, and it would still take hours to do anything for the pain, but once it started to work, no problem. And I mean no problems at all. I remember a friend found me holding an x-box paddle and staring at the tv which wasn't even turned on. I was just too relaxed to lean forward and hit the switch, so I sat there for over an hour. Driving a mid-sized sedan into me might have gotten a reaction, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Vicodin is hydrocodone. If you get a prescription for hydrocodone underneath it will almost always say "generic for vicodin." generic drugs are usually cheaper and more often paid for by your health insurance, although vicodin is often covered too. I was suprised to read that some dentists don't prescribe it, but it probably has to do with state laws. Where I live it seems to be pretty common. It's what I got when my wisdom teeth were pulled and what my dad got when he had kidney stones. I put this in the search engine because I wanted to know how people feel when taking vicodin. So whether you're taking it because you have to to ease some pain of some sort, or you're taking it because you want to get fucked up, can you describe how it makes you feel? (forgive me for any misspellings, and I probably spelled that wrong, but I'm drinking and on vicodin, and save your breath. I know it's bad for my liver, and blah blah blah...)

Vicodin doesn't work for me. Ask the doctor for something else.

It makes me feel like I want more Vicodin. I try to avoid opiates unless I'm in a lot of pain and if I do take them, I take them sparingly and for a VERY short time.

Dentists are licensed to give vicodin, I too received them for wisdom tooth removal.

My best guess is that the OP's opiate receptors just aren't sensitive to that particular drug. But Vicodin isn't terribly strong to begin with anyway.
