God where do you begin with a talent like Les Claypool? He has one of the most unique voices and bass playing style in all of the entire music industry. He first broke out with Primus, one of the best bands ever, but they still manage to suck at the same time. With the popularity that Primus gave Claypool he was able to strike out with a number of smaller projects such as Sausage [which is mediocre], the Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, Bucket of Bernie Brains and his own solo work. 2006 is a big year for Claypool because...

He seems a lot more sane than I would have expected from his music. I'd have a beer with him...

the last thing he says is my favorite part

"I’d love to play with someone like Merle Haggard or Neil Young or Willie Nelson. I think that would be great with a duo type thing, but I don’t know if they’d want to work with me."

I'm sure they'd dig your acoustic bass skills Les shocked

Was the knock against Sausage really necessary? I happen to enjoy that album and listen to it from time to time.

Les is best with Herb the ginseng drummer, though, in my humble opinion.

No doubt -- Sausage was great. Todd Huth and Jay Lane are no slouches...

Les Claypool is in my top 5 of bassists, song writers, and preformers. I would love to sit down and smoke a bowl with the man.

primus sucks
and merle and willy and the rest would be dumb asses
if they didn't take him up on working together
making music the les way is always a refreshing POV...
way to go on the questions bro.

I'll admit that I struggled with Primus at first. Then, by chance, I saw them live as an opening act for Rush. They absolutely killed. Les brought those songs to life, with a physical delivery that aped his world class chops. When I went home and gave them a spin again, I got it. He's been in in pantheon since.

Les Claypool is the shit! Yeah seeing them live definately completes the experience. There's something about their live show that just can't be captured on CD. Les has presence.
