i was in training for a month this year because a guy i was sparring with had injured himself....there was a purse involved and i thought maybe, but i did not pass the physical and at 220 lbs. i would of had to drop about thirty in two months, it was not a sanction fight so that was the only reason i considered, i haven't fought a sanctioned match in 10 yrs,

I did aikido for a while, it was fun.

Now I prefer running away or pepper spray. That's the ultimate range.

i did a couple of krav maga workouts with security force specialists from the border area of lebanon, i don't agree with the isreali gov't, completely, that is a seperate issue, most forms of combat that are taught come from great struggles in human development and i am only interested in effectiveness not political origin of a style, but it has very impressive strike capability and strenth exercises for improving grappling ability....

Did Taekwon Do for 4 years...it was great. Did some Muay Tai techniques along with it, as well as Judo. Good stuff. A guy in Karate once tried to fight me because he was "better". Damn was it ever fun to beat on him!

Was fun, but I didn't have the commitment & mindset to really be good at it, or to stick with it. bok

I don't understand why people have such an interest in Muay
Tai. It's incredibly taxing on the body. The entire principle of the movement is that if from the full-inertial strike you happen to miss, you should expect to get hurt, which seems counter-productive to any form of self-defence. But then again I'm taking tai-chi...

Muay thai is, what i would think, a more proven art than soemthing like Tai Chi, or Kung Fu... or any other art that focuses more on forms... cause muay thai is mainly focused on the sport... its one thing to know a technique well, its another thing to be able to execute through fine motor skills... if thast makes any sense..

basically, i think you learn 1000% more when your head to head than when your perfecting your form in grappling, strieks, anything........

i agree, and to add to that there is an spiritual side to this combat contest that i found very fulfilling, even though i am not a practioner of the religion, and i really get a lot out of how the live music is incorporated into some of the bouts i had, these bouts are an overwhelming sensory experience, not just for the crowd, but for the fighters as well, even the wagering is part of the whole tempo of the experience, especially in fights i had in taipei and manila....

thats is provided that you are not well ballanced and unable to withstand the contact. that is why part of muay tai is toneing and strengthining of the skin. I train, though at the moment im not quite in shape...but i do and im working on it. Its fun and the style is strong.

Krav is now centered in Los Angeles CA headed by the D.A. of Los Angeles County. What I like best about it is it's adaptability. For example, within the last 3 years I have studied, we've had to modify even our Level 1 techniques because of the growing commonality of head-butt attacks. It originated from Jujitsu and wrestling and evolved from what the instructors ave put in from other styles they know. The techniques used coincide from research and statistics of violent crimes committed in America. There are also special levels of Krav reservered for police and military use.

I did martial arts for 6 years before becoming a pacifist. While I admit the Jui jitzu is the king of grappling and Mui Thai is an incredible fighting style, Aikido was my first form and has always been a more natural from for me,

I think the most important part of choosing a fighting style is finding one that fits you. I could never in my wildest dreams conform to the rigidness of karate, But a flowing style like Aikido worked very well for me in fights.

You just did Togakure Ryu stuff? Who did you study under? I've been with the American Bujinkan for about a year, and although we do lots of Togakure stuff its mixed in with the 8 other extant ryus. I have also just started working with DeCuerdas Eskrima, but that's mad hard to find on the East coast. Mui Thai is way cool as well, one of my friend's trained pretty hard in it and he is impressive.

My bad... meant to say Bujinkan, but it's been so damn long, I forgot the proper name.. biggrin I trained under 3 different people, but the guy who was the actual connection to Japan (as in training directly with Hatsumi sensei) was named Phil Legare.

Legare? Sweet, he's coming up here in a couple months to do a gun seminar, if I'm not mistaken. He's the ex-spec ops guy, right? Not to sound retarded, I'm just really bad with names, and tend to muck them up pretty regularly. Either way, who would've thought you'd see two ninjas on the same website?
