In case you haven't crossed over to the dark side and joined myspace, a little background info. SG releases a blog entry every morning containing previews of the sets going up that day.

A couple of weeks ago I made the mistake of actually reading people's comments on the blog. I'm appalled at the nerve of these kids! They "rank" the SGs, call them ugly, say they don't have enough tattoos, or are plain, etc. One guy today said he "takes shits that are better looking."

What the hell is wrong with people? I mean, I know it's myspace and all, but have people always been such dicks?

Anyway, I just had to vent because it drives me absolutely crazy when I see these idiots insulting the women.

Also, starting threads is scary. It's like my third one in 2 years!

i guess they figure because we put ourselves out there, and know that lots of people will see and judge us, that it's an okay thing to do. that we shouldn't just display ourselves to get 'wow, you're so great!' comments [the only kind that are really allowed on sg - thank goodness], that we should hear the negative as well. that it's not fair to put yourself out there for an ego-stroke if you're not willing to take the other side of the coin. i sort of see where they're coming from... though it would never drive me to be unnecessarily cruel to anyone. it's still easier not to hurt someone's feelings i think... but not everyone has that common sense.

I get your point. I know I'm coming across as naive, and that I'm stating the obvious, but I just find it so uncalled for. I'm just complaining about it.

Maybe, but only after I teach you about the internet.

So yeah, let me clarify. It is far from my first day on the internet. I'm just pointing out that the comments left in the blog are mean and that I think it sucks when people act like assholes.

Just sayin'.

I agree that posting is scary. Personally, I think that this is a very valid topic, as I love to surf the drama and dirt. I was not aware of this situation. It's wild that when you point at the lowest common denominator in an unmoderated forum and say, "look how ugly those people agree being"...You expose your self to criticism from an Internet elite who may wind up slapping you around a bit for some presumed naivete

Nobody is slapping anyone around, not even virtually. The person who mentioned naivete was the original poster, no one else. Personally, I was just making a little joke, in that people are nasty little shits about everything on the internet. I'm not sure why people here are surprised that people on MySpace say shitty things about SG considering some of the shitty things SGers say here about MySpace. Circle of life, my friend, circle of life.

You've got a point there...

I don't feel slapped around. I knew what I was exposing myself to when I started the thread.

i didn't so much mean that she was gettin slapped around yet. What I meant was that I can relate to that scary feeling just before you hit submit. You gotta' admit that teasing is like a sport in here. Not that it's wrong. not that it has to stop. I've enjoyed the voyeurism of reading a flame war more and more lately. Cyberspace has it's own cerebral jocks who rule the roost.

Your post is light hearted and friendly, Pointblank.
I just saw a kind of Irony and took a stab at defining it in my clumsy way. I love your comments. They're intelligent and hilarious at the same time.

I agree. We all know that when we present ourselves to the public we invite criticism as well as praise. No one's being naive. However, no one likes being roundly and unfairly insulted by beastly teenagers (or overgrown teenagers).

Why can't we all just get along?

I had someone talk shit about me on Myspace once. It was one of my proudest moments as an internet user. I'm sure she's probably not the only one. Hell, there are probably people here talking shit about me. Meh.
