OLD SKOOL

I have seen so many kick ASS movies lately... I wanted to start another movie thread so we could talk about the movies we've seen lately and give each other tips about what to rent. If it wasn't for this board, I wouldn't have known about Donnie Darko and DAYUM what a good flick. Here's some great flicks I've rented lately.

Donnie Darko
Vanilla Sky
Session 9
The Anniversary Party
The Others

I would definitely recommend all of those to anyone. Anyone else wanna jump in here?

ooh.. and as for movie tips.. i was at blockbuster last night and they have this really gret deal. if buy a coupon for 10 rentals (it's like $25) you'll get a free copy of lord of the rings when it comes out.. and they'll be charging at least 20 for that anyway.. i think i'm going to go for it

Okay, I'm gonna go rent it... I just hope it's not one of those artsy stupid fucking movies that's about nothing, but is filmed so well that people have to say it's good.. Blah.

Francis Ford Coppola's wife makes a documentary about every movie he makes. Anyone seen 'Heart of Darkness' about Apocalypse Now? DAMN good flick.

krush groove is a fantastic movie "who's house? RUNS HOUSE!"

i just have two additions...
monster's ball - a bit melodramatic but on the visceral level, halle berry taking her kit off is worth the price of rental alone
brother - lots of dry humor from japanese filmmaker kitano "beat" takeshi

i haven't seen many recent films. i did enjoy spiderman quite a bit, if not for kirten dunst's wet tshirt scene, then certainly for the killer effects and the perfect adapation of spidey's physical traits (the way he'd fight, sit atop a tower, fly around the city, etc ... all pretty accurate in my comic book geek eyes). requiem for a dream is likely the best relatively recent film i've seen.

julien donkey boy is harmony korrine's most recent i believe. i think he has a new one coming out soon or it's already out -- this is the one after gummo ... regardless, it's a beautiful film with ewan bremmner, the absolutely BRILLIANT werner herzog and as always chloe sevigny. reccomended.

Saw a noon showing of 'PowerPuff Girls' today. Definitely recommend it for this group. The only down side is the 15 minutes of kid film previews before the movie. But hey, big screen MoJo JoJo is worth it.

Well i was gonna list a whole bunch of movies that i liked but after typing it all out, it seemed more like just a whole bunch of info that would just make peoples eyes hurt. So instead i'll bring up a movie that i happen to like that most other people dont.

Alien Resurection, I personaly love this movie because i'm into french sci fi. However most sci fi fans that i know say this one was almost as bad as alien 3. Plz discuss.
