Who loves this show?

I do!

The teams this season can't seem to do anything right! Three hours in the kitchen and they can barely produce an appetizer! Guests chanting "WE WANT OUR FOOD!" and walking out of the restaurant empty-bellied! That is AWESOME TV! biggrin

Oh god... Is this the reality show that was prophecied? Do they throw a bunch of yahoos into a restaurant and make them cook?

It's like American Idol, but with cooks (not yahoos, actual cooks)! And the head chef is SUPER mean. Like, even meaner than a real-life head chef, probably. He hates them all. It's so rad.

Ramsey is easily the most entertaining chef on the telly and easily the best chef on the telly. Very much the real deal.

I am curious as to why people with so little experience of restaurants would think they could oversee a $million establishment. I'm also suprised at Ramsey using the term "executive" chef as I'm sure he's shat on it from a great height before. None of the people on the show remotely have the qualifications or experience to be an "executive" anything.

Surely a better show would be to take a lot of good up and coming sous chefs and give them a chance at a head chef position in a decent establishment. Not as much "fun" though I guess.

I hope the prison guy does well, though none should be running a restaurant any time soon..

He's exacting. He demands perfection, hence three Michelin starred restaurants. His style gets people's attention.

He barks a lot but he inspires in equal measure and, so far in his career, has supremely loyal staff. I guess he just wants the people cooking with him to have the same desire for what they are doing as he has and if you don't then you're working for the wrong guy.

When that lass said she was happy to send the substandard food Ramsey was set to give her the bullet on the spot. He gave her one too many chances to change her mind in my opinion.

It's funny how different the American show is to the British one. No posh meals in fancy restaurants, shooting the shit with "Gordon".

I was very pleased when last seasons winner chose to come and work with Ramsey rather than get handed a restaurant. That was smart and what I would have done. With something like 90% of restaurants failing in the first couple of years he had better odds for a great career with the choice he made.
I learned the most and improved the most from chefs who were demanding and had high expectations.

He made them jump into dumpsters and wade through their own garbage, then he told them that they "stink." C'mon, that was mean. wink

As one of the men said, had he made them eat it that would have been mean.

Ramsey's style is to put people under pressure and will drive them to either desire to reach the standards he sets or quit. He wins either way. A decent head Chef should inspire fear and respect in equal measure.

Do you get 'Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares'? over there It's a show where he goes into s failing/struggling restaurant and trys to show them where they can improve. Everything from menus to decoration and service, the whole shebang. It's a much better show for seeing just why Ramsey inspires the loyalty in his own staff despite his reputation for being a "bully".

I'd never buy one of his recipe books though.

Next week looks good. The trouble with it being an American version is that you have the nagging doubt that it's all staged. People can be as incompetent as portrayed on the show and Ramsey is that "volatile" but next weeks edited highlights look pretty gosh darned firey. Did the producers feel the need to spice it up a little? Will it be a case of over egging the pudding? Have they bitten off more than they can chew...?

Ok, I can't think of any other remotely applicable kitchen clichés.

Do you get the F Word? Ramsey's really good in that. This week he was ripping new aresholes for a load of "ladies that lunch" who thought they could cook but couldn't even cook scrambled egg for four. He cheats though. He picks dishes which look really simple, he demonstrates how really simple they are (with his decades of professional experience and craft at the highest level) and then stands back while they completely toss it up (except for salad which is probably the only thing these people can't toss up).

What's funny is that on the F Word they are cooking for 50 covers, one service. Ramsey could do 50 covers by himself, they have teams of 3 or 4 to cock it up.
