Singer Kevin Aviance fell victim to a vicious hate crime this weekend in New York. A group of men yelling anti-gay insults attacked the Billboard chart-topping singer. Early Saturday morning, the men dragged Aviance to a nearby curb, viciously beating him and pelting him with garbage. Pedestrians passed by, but none attempted to stop the attack. Aviance lay conscious on the street street until an ambulance arrived.
Kevin Aviance, 38, underwent surgery for a broken jaw after the attack Saturday, said his publicist, Len Evans. Police said the singer, whose song Alive hit the top of the chart in 2002, was in stable condition.
A group of six or seven men attacked Aviance early Saturday, and passers-by did not stop to help as they threw objects at him, Evans said.
Police arrested four men, charging them with first-degree assault as a hate-crime.
If I saw four people beating the shit out of someone on the street, I would call police, but there is no way in fuck I would step in. I saw plenty of fights during my life in the Bronx and the city and you'd have to be nuts if you stepped in to stop these fights. You'd end up in worse shape.
It's called Diffusion of Responsibility, when you're in trouble people in a large crowd usually won't help you as much as one or two people passing by!
...makes me wonder what makes people think this is ok?!? When in their mind did the thought get passed through their conscience as being yeah... that's perfectly acceptable behavior ?

That is completely fucked up. We need to start changing things and fast. Everyone needs to get out and vote to make changes...
I completely agree this is fucked up. But...vote?
I don't think you can "vote" someone out of hating someone else.
Educate, incarcerate...yes. But I don't know of a law that might prevent homophobic fucks from continuing to be homophobic fucks.
Unless, maybe, handgun laws. I mean...if someone in the crowd had a gun, I bet they wouldn't have been afraid to step in. Or maybe if we paid cops more, there'd be more of them (and fewer useless corrupt ones). Or maybe if we paid Teachers worth a shit, we could get some qualified people in our schools.
That's totally fucked up, and I hope those motherfucker rot in the deepest hell of prison we have to offer. Ship them off to Guantanamo Bay for all I care.
I don't think, however, that this should be a rallying point for Gay Rights. And i don't think voting on shit is going to help. Voting never helps, cause people don't vote morally, they vote "for the lesser of two evils" or some other bullshit. Adding laws doesn't do much of anything but increase the power of the government. having a perfectly crime-free society is pointless if it's accomplished through turning cops into legal demi-Gods. This isn't about revoking the rights of others, it's about protecting the rights of individuals.
These guys are fucked up. Punish the SHIT out of them. I'm all for that. But don't throw money and lazy teachers, braindead policemen, or useless beaurocracy. That wont help anyone, except the Government, and they have more then enough power.
I wonder if it were possible for someone to advocate for increased punishment due to "hate crime" legislation to not sound personal... MAYbe if you stopped to understand the implications of hate crime laws... Is someone beat to a bloody pulp because they are gay really that much more of a vicitm than someone who was beat to the same degree regardless of the reason???
so, because george bush things beings gay is a choice, then he chose to get the shit kicked out of him, right???? so its his fault...
gosh, i hate my government.
Right. This is TOTALLY the government's fault. Shit like this NEVER happened under the Democrats.
I'm sure if we just passed the Gay marriage law, all these redneck, fucktards would just shrug their shoulders and wander back off to fuck the pigs...
You'd think the Marriage Amendment, then, would have healthy support from meat industry lobbyists, an industry languishing due to high levels of sexually-jilted pork.

On and on and on...
Come on, get with the program. Everything thats wrong in this world whether it be the people who hate others or the people who walk by with indifference is because of our elected officials. We don't elect people to represent us, we elect people to be scapegoats. Haven't you been watching the news?
But seriously this type of behavior goes beyond laws. Proper behavior is something that needs to be instilled in us as children and sadly it isn't happening.

"Excuse me, sir! I feel so terrible about the beating you're taking, and I'd just like you to know that it's totally inspired me to vote in November!"
Fantastic. The nuetering of the species forges on...
Hate crime laws are such godshit...why not just increase the punishment for beating ANYONE, instead of slectively, along stupid political lines?
that seems too logical. lets not get radical. i remember hearing a story of a guy who threw his child against a dresser and killed it... to the tune of 5 years in prison. or the equivalent of a spanking. i wish hammurabi were still around...

Incorrect. It is common knowledge that self respecting fags only use soy sausages as sexual toys.
