I think brand loyalty has more to do with an effective marketing campaign.

Sometimes it has to do with a superior product.

And they're often not mutually exclusive.

I couldn't leave her if I tried! Dun-da-dun-da-dun-da-dun-da-dun-da-dun!

I am loyal to Nintendo. When I was growing up, Sega was the enemy. Now I hate Sony.

My SO & I both always try to support local stores / brands whenever possible over the big monsters . This , of course , depends on the local product not being total shit . Around here , it's easy to find great food . Lots of local breweries too .
As far as big brands , the last 2 cars I've bought were VWs . And unless this one starts falling apart in a dreadful manner , I can see myself buying more in the future .

Yeah, my family as had VWs since the 1950's. I have had 8 myself. It's a shame that the one they have now (2000 GTI) is such a pile of dogshit. I can't wait for them to replace it with a Honda so I don't have to fix it anymore.

50 years of brand loyalty down the toilet with one bad car.

I have brands I support, and brands that I tell everyone about, but if some other brand is on special and it's comparitively decent, i'll go with that one.
