I can't watch the trailer. But I saw the 1973 version and I loved it. I doubt this will be anywhere near as good. And I really loathe Leelee Sobieski, too.

Kate Beahan is fricking beautiful! Why have I never really noticed her before (a quick glance at her work tells me why)?

argh. how can they remake such a weird little moment in time that that film was? dirty hippies, weird eroticism, an insane and wild-haired Christopher Lee? gah.

someday i hope the public will choke to death on all of these remakes. i hope it is soon. they get more absurd with each new one that pops up. puke

In defense of this movie, the directory, Neil LaBute, is one of our generations most talented dramatists. His plays are brutally honest. And he's a Mormon. So it will be interesting to see his take on a pagan cult.

For the first half of the first minute of the trailer, I was like, "How is this 'The Wicker Man'?"

I tend to doubt that if I watched the original Scarface I would recognize much of anything from the 80s Scarface.

There are quite a few exceptions. A Fistfull of Dollars, The Birdcage, Last House on the Left...

Now I haven't seen Nurse Betty or In the Company of Men, but I do know LaBute is one hell of an artist. He's not Neil Simon--he's a serious dramatist. Don't count this thing out just yet. I mean, this isn't some Hollywood hack scoring another quick buck, like that German guy who does the video game movies.

How can someone be Neil LaBute and a Mormon at the same time

Limb? Hell, more like a trunk.

Now maybe if they got Rose McDowell, Tony Wakeford & Dave Tibet to contribute some music at least the soundtrack CD wouldn't suck...

i hear you. i was kind of shocked to see his name on it. perhaps i am too cynical, but i chalked it up to a paycheck. lord knows his previous films haven't raked in the scrilla.

it just seems like a tougher film than most to be able to recapture the magic of the original.... i guess that if the reviews are good, i'll give it a shot. until then, i'm best pretending it doesn't exist. tongue

The man writes some of the most fucked up plays I've ever read, and he's a Mormon convert. He wasn't even raised as such. He went to Brigham Young and converted. eeek
