Jonathan Katz is the brilliantly funny deadpan comedian that the animated show Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist was built around. Dr. Katz was Comedy Centrals first big hit and was on for five years. Its taken another six years for the first season to come out on DVD. But its here and it has commentaries by Katz, collaborator H. Jon Benjamin and many of the comedians who sat on the couch.
i'm so glad this show is finally being released in complete season sets. I don't want somebody's idea of the "best" episodes -- I want them all, dagnabbit.
Has anybody else seen that half-hour standup comedy special Jonathan Katz did? It's aired a few times on Comedy Central, and was absolutely hilarious, but I can't find a copy now to save my life...

He had an HBO special about eight-ten years ago. The have been replaying it occasionally on HBO. If you know someone in Portland with digital cable it is often on the free OnDemand. It may also be the same one Comedy Central replays.
I love Dr. Katz. It and News Radio were my absolute favorite shows when they were on. I've been hoping for several years that it would be released on DVD. It looks like I finally have something to tell my family that I'd like for my birthday.
Dr. Katz is the single greatest thing to happen to television ever. What I wanna know is WHEN THE FRELL ARE THE DVDS GOING TO BE RELEASED IN AUSTRALIA?!?!?!

I'm sad that the current culture of comedians seems to be moving away from deadpan wit.
Yes! That's the problem with most comedians... they may be funny, tell jokes, but they have no wit. Wit beats out comedy hands down.
I'm almost embarrassed to say, but I never knew Dr. Katz was Jonathan Katz. I had seen his standup and I LOVE deadpan humor. I tried to see and hear anything he did. But I never watched Dr. Katz, partly because of squigglevision. And the whole show was deadpan! It was right before or right after the show ended I heard the announcer say and saw who actually starred in it, listened to the voice, and wanted to kick myself in the head. It was shortly after I didn't see it on Comedy Central anymore
