London is for tourists, everywhere else in Britain is very cheap. You can buy houses for 20p (that's each obviously; you can't buy an entire street of houses - or hice: plural of house - for 20p unless you are playing Monopoly where I prefer Roly Poly) . An egg sandwich in London is something like £5+ egg + bread + service + napkin charge but you can buy a similar egg sandwich in Newcastle for 5p all in.

However, if you live in London you are legally allowed to hate everyone else in the country and moan about how much the Olympics are going to cost you. So not all bad.

ahahahahaaaa that was funny

Naww, that's just a novelty item that London millionaires want to buy so they can feel the thrill of what it's like to be a poor janitor for a day. Kinda like role-playing but without the pleasure.

The price of housing/rent/daily living costs has extended well beyond the boundaries of what used to be considered London city, though. I've been feeling the increasing pinch in Windsor. I know, living in Windsor you'd think I was posh, but there's only one family who lives in a castle round here. The rest of us are paying £11 for a coffee and a sandwich.

That's why I get practically everything from abroad off eBay. Well, not my food, but everything else. F'reals.

For the record Europe is a huge continent made up of many countries all very, very different. I don't mean to be rude but the tendency to lump us all together is something that really annoys me. Especially since the United Kingdom is probably the least 'European' country out of the lot.

Sorry. I know this is a sore spot for many people in the U.K. As much as the U.K. is the least "European" country in Europe, it's much more like Europe than it is like the states. . .

haha i know so many british people that are like 'i'm not european! screw that!' looked at a map lately people?

this is making me excited to go to the uk in the fall but making me realize i might want to schedule a little less time in london!

One of the things I really like about London is that you need a special card to eat oysters; it keeps out both the riff and the raff. I know that Burberry wish they'd introduced a similar scheme, as does Louis Roederer. It's about keeping it exclusive, not real.

or

One of the things I really like about London is that it's the only place in the world whos public transport system rewards its passengers by awarding them points which can be used to dine on oysters.

Whichever.
