inspired by Fatality and her pet thread, i pose a question. whats the strangest thing youve noticed your pet do?

my crested gecko eats his skin when he sheds. i think all cresteds do it, but i thought it was really weird when i first saw him do it.

I'm not sure if all cats do this, but when mine is on my bed with me, ontop of all the blankets, he'll sometimes get really worked up trying to 'dig'. Thing is, is there's nowhere for him to dig to since he's in the middle of the blanket. surreal Good thing he's got no front claws because I'd be out about 10 torn blankets. shocked

Cats instinctively try to sharpen their claws by this type of behavior, even if they have been declawed. Mine like to do the same thing on the armrests of chairs, and one of them even likes to do this to my feet, which since he is declawed, is actually more like a foot massage smile

my Dachsund likes to bring in rocks and hide them behind the couch

she also likes to "dig" under blankets and behind pillows and curl up there...i think that one is an instinctual one though, since they were bred for that kind of thing

and my cockatoo...he does a whole slew of weird things surreal

Whenever my hedgehog eats something he's never tasted before--or hasn't tasted in a long time---he foams at the mouth. Then he jerks around (he's kind of stout, so he really has trouble bending, hence the jerking), and tries with all his might to smear the foam around on his quills. Weird. They say all hedgehogs do it. Actually, it's pretty gross. It's better when he huffles and rolls into a grouchy ball.

When Shadow our African Grey first started living with us, he'd take a few of his pellets and hide them between his feathers. He'd be sitting on one of us, then reach into his plumage to grab a pellet.

Now that he is apparently satisfied that he will always get a healthy supply of food, he occasionally will throw pellets/corn/cranberries/melon/mango/or whatever he is eating right at my head. Upon scoring a hit he says "Stop it Shadow." Then laughs like Dr Evil.

this should say enough about how weird my white boxer puppy is
well, i guess its true for all boxers, but he's psychotic!

i probably took 30-40 shots of him running around me and barking/spazzing, and this was the best i got, even on a fast shutter speed...

something specifically weird about my dog, other than him being a spaz in general, is that if he's doing something i dislike (such as begging for food when we're eating dinner) and i yell at him NO! he thinks that i'm trying to start playing with him, so he gets down with his front paws and scoots around like he's skating, and he barks at me over and over. it's funny as hell, i can't stay mad at him.

also, he LOOOOOVES to look out the window. boxers are naturally curious, so it makes sense. if i'm not sitting in the recliner that's next to the window, you can be guaranteed that he's in it. in our old apartment, he would sit on our bed for hours because it was the only place he could even remotely see what was going on outside. we call him "window monkey." mostly because his name is monkey and we're not very creative, but we've come to realize that monkey is probably the best name we could have ever come up with for this dog. he's crazy

here's another pic, because he's awesome and i love photographing him:

Our dog Leroy likes to bring Bean treats when Bean is in bed in the mornings. Leroy will go downstairs, "dig up" a Greenie or Snausage that he has "buried" in the couch, bring it back upstairs, jump onto the bed and put the treat by Bean's head.

Scuzzy has a list of weird things he does.
First, His feet always smell like fresh popcorn, Especially after he sleeps and they get warm.
He "commando crawls" all over, in the grass, carpet or all over the bed, This is consisted of crawling with his ass up, Tail sticking out and rubbing his chin on the floor.
When asked to sit he's got to make a complete turn before he can sit.
He also sleeps in bed, Between two people. Like a human.

I almost forgot, He likes to get in our paper only wastebasket, Just to get post its and chew them up.

When my dog was a puppy I saw him have his two back paws on the couch. His front right paw on a bookcase next to the couch. This front left paw hanging in the air. This was all so he could stick his head in the trash can that was next to the couch.

all my pets do weird things. my cat piper will hang on the door when she wants to come in. george, another cat, will get lost. in the house. cus he's that dumb. sasha, our 3rd cat, is satan spawn. she refuses to go outside, interact with the other cats, or people. she sits behind the couch cushions and sometimes will pick a spot and then not move for days.

i've had a few cats do this. they were all cats that we had found very young and had to bottle feed and do all the mommy cat stuff. a couple of them we found before their eyes were open. i think it's just because they didn't nurse when they were kittens, so it's a behavior that they never really fulfilled.

Heh, Saucer does something similar - except he keeps his butt down and trails his legs behind him. Still haven't gotten a photo of it, but it's hilarious. He does it when he gets really hot and is trying to cool off, and when he's in a down/stay and wants to go someplace else and is being sneaky about it...

my dog gracie, a big fat pit bull will creep places doing something like that. if she wants attention and you tell her to lay down, she'll creep like that until she's in your lap. a 65 lb dog that thinks she's a lap dog.

I had a cat that used to rub his nose on your face if he was feeling all sunggly and lovey.

I had a dog that made popping noises when he slept.

Ive had 3 dogs that click their teeth together, like mini snaps, when theyre excited.

I had a dog that points to things she wants with her head.

I had a dog that would pee and poop with her butt and back legs in the air, tottering along on her front paws.

I had a bird that would follow you around the house, walking around on the floor boards, and would freak out if he couldnt get to you. We always knew when he was coming because you could hear his little claws clicking on the floor.

That same bird also bit any other bird he met on the face. Hehe, little asshole.

I had a dog that would race down the hall when you got home from work and would then flip onto her back and slide the last meter or so to your feet and wriggle making this weird grunting noise. It was her way of demanding a hello belly scratch

Wow. It really seems like Ive had a ton of pets, I havent really. I just fostered rescue dogs for a few years.

My cat will sit in the window and if she sees a bird, she'll stare really hard and open her mouth super wide and make this terrifying "Ack-ack-ack-ack" sound. It's a quiet, fluid sound--she adds a bit of her meowing voice in it--like she's trying to imitate a bird sound or something. She seems like she's posessed when she does it confused

I used to have a cat that would do that too. I miss her.

She liked to get on top of my computer monitor and stare for hours at a painting I had hanging on the wall there. I was never sure if it was because she could see her reflection, or was absorbed in the gold of the paint, or if it was just something convenient to look at while she warmed her ass on my computer monitor, but she was always pretty intense about it.

The same cat's brother (who was neutered) used to have a way of hopping onto my bed every night and spasming or humping the blankets or my arm. When I got tired of it and pushed him off the bed, he'd sit in the corner and lick his crotch for fifteen minutes or more...

He also had a way of forgetting that I was home, and so would go to the front door and sit and meow until I yelled at him. He'd look at me in a sort of, "Hey, you're back!!" kind of way and run on over to jump in my lap.

They both liked to burrow, and many times I could come home from classes of an afternoon and wonder where the hell my cats went, only to check under the covers of my bed and find them both there, cuddled up and pissed as hell that I was letting all the light in. Kiki also liked a lot so just sit and sleep in the bathtub...
