I'm lost

No longer can throngs of teenage boys hope to get their mitts on a Pussycat Doll, which had been scheduled for release just in time for Christmas shopping. Toymaker Hasbro has scrapped their plans to produce a six-piece line of dolls featuring the group on the grounds that they are "inappropriate" for children after receiving complaints from angered and concerned parents.

"Hasbro will not move forward with the line of dolls based on the Pussycat Dolls," a statement from the toy manufacturer reads. "[PCD's label] Interscope's current creative direction and images for the group are focused on a much older target than we had anticipated at the time of our original discussions, thereby making a doll line inappropriate for Hasbro."

The pop group's image stemmed from an original Los Angeles-based burlesque act, which is obviously not geared towards children. The radio friendly version of Pussycat Dolls are very popular with teens, grammar butchers, and those who exercise their mute button rights. They are not, however, popular with conservative parents. Multiple family groups had launched campaigns targeting the toymaker's pursuit of the project.

"We were asking the executives at Hasbro — who happen to be fathers and grandfathers — to put their own daughters or granddaughters into the picture and then reconsider the dolls," Joe Kelly, the president of Dads & Daughters, told MTV News. "This is clearly an adult group, an act that grew out of cabaret, and I think [Hasbro's] decision to abandon the dolls was smart. I think our objections made sense. I mean, I don't think any father wants their 6-year-old daughter walking around like a sex kitten."

Sadly, this means no snarky tagline submissions like "Skankmobile Sold Separately."

Why are there six of them?

As far as I can tell that dark looking one gets to be the 'star' in the videos while the other five just dance about.

Why is this on SG anyway?

because they've been a dance/burlesque troupe for years before making their crappy songs.

apparantly it's rather hard to be a dance group all by your lonesome.

Yeah they used to be a burlesque troupe and were fantastic! They did a show with Gwen Stefani once and the clips I've seen were amazing!!! Now they are just rubbish and blah!

someone should just run with the marketing they've got now and make pussycat blow up dolls.

at the very least, i think it would be more honest.

I actually thought they were talking about life-size-do-what-you-want-to dolls anyway.

I swear I really am getting too old and jaded. blackeyed

Exotic Dancing toys for children. I can smell a winner from a mile away. Why would parents complain? Did they have pulsating body parts or something? Children wouldn't be buying them anyway. Dudes in their forties who where the same pair of underwear for a month would be collecting them.

as a matter of fact, lots of people complained about it. probably less so because it wasn't made by a toy company that gears its products towards grade-school kids.

I will admit complete ignorance of the Pussycat Dolls before reading this, but there are a few points here which really disturbed me:

1. As RockabillyRev pointed out, many parents allow their young girls to dress provocatively long before they've even hit puberty. If you're going to campaign against a product having a slut-ifying influence on your daughter, why not make it against the manufacturers responsible for prostityke apparel?

2. These "grandfathers and fathers" at Hasbro - why is it ok to whore out other people's daughters, but not your own? (re: the argument made by the parents' group)

3. Am I the only one who gets the feeling these same fathers (of Dads and Daughters) might be patrons of the sex trade themselves? Not to stretch the argument too much, but wouldn't that perpetuate point number two?

Sorry this was so long...
