Does anyone else watch their local news? Is it as sensationalistic and contentless as mine?

"Sexual predators on MySpace"
"Backmasking on Your Child's Favorite CDs"
"City Employees Sleeping... In Handicapped Spaces... On YOUR Dime!"
"Dirty Little Downloads"

That last one was the ridiculous. About "porncasting". It was ridiculous. And they kept flashing these awful screen shots of homepages and search engine returns. Right now I'm looking at

On the fucking news. They don't need to protect kids from the internet. They need to protect kids from the news.

I refuse to watch local news for just that reason. Even the commercials, or maybe especially the commercials for it drives my blood pressure up.

Exactly. I can watch the news and be informed, or I can lead a peaceful life and keep my ulcer under control. I choose the latter.

Ours is doing a lot of overly religious stuff recently. An interview with a man who debunks "The DaVinci Code" and "The Bible Diet" were recent stories. I really hate living in the Bible Belt.

It's Britney Spears and Eminem now.

If you listen to "Hi, my name is--what? My name is--who? My name is... " it comes out "I'm Eminem... I'm Eminem... I'm Eminem..." That was their revelation to the public.

And "When I'm with you I lose my mind, give me a sign" is supposed to be "Sleep with me, I'm not to young"

Backmasking is putting "subliminal" messages into songs that can only really be heard if they're played backwards.

I watch my local news every night, and always have. Yes, it's a bit sensationalist now because it's May sweeps ... I just ignore that crap and pay attention to the stuff that I actually want to know.

I'm pretty sure all local news is like that. I will occasionally watch it but usually only when I know about a particularly interesting story that will be on. I can't stand it most of the time.

I love the local news, especially the "Investigative Team" who accost business owners in parking lots and shame them into refunding money for fucking up somebodies wedding pictures or towing their car illegally or some such shit.

I also like when they expose health code violations "in your favorite restaurants?? We'll tell you which eateries are the worst later in the broadcast. . .but first here's Carmen Santamaria with a story about a dog who loves to paint!"

I'm of the opinion that local news in the northeast is a tiny bit better than local news out here on the west coast.

An oregon favorite of the local news is "police bust local meth lab, and you'll never guess what it was right next door to, details after the break"

It's just not local news...

I would like to quote Bill Hicks (rest his soul):

You ever watch CNN headlines news for any length of time? It's the most depressing f***'in thing you will ever do.

"WAR! FAMINE! DEATH! AIDS! HOMELESS! RECESSION! DEPRESSION! WAR! FAMINE! DEATH! AIDS!"

Then you're kinda lookin out your window...

*Crickets chirpin*

Where is all this s*** happening?!

Ted Turner is making this s*** up! Jane fonda won't sleep with him, he runs to a typewriter: By 1992 we will all die of AIDS. Read that on the air! I don't get laid, nobody gets laid.
