When I put Placebo new album Meds into my player it really surprised me. It sounded so different from what Ive heard from Placebo in the past but at the same time it was so uniquely them. I got a chance to talk with the lead singer of Placebo, Brian Molko, about making a less electronic based album, doing a duet with Michael Stipe and just generally whats its like to be such a cool down to earth dude.
i thought their first two albums were their best, but saying that the newer stuff is still a million times better than alot of the music that is getting released these days - my only problem with placebo is the fact my girlfriend has a got a mjot crush on brian molko!
'Without You I'm Nothing' is by far, my favourite album - tracks like 'Burger Queen', 'Ask For Answers' and 'My Sweet Prince'.
'Black Market Music' comes a very close second with tracks like 'Passive Aggressive', 'Black Eyed', 'Haemoglobin', 'Narcoleptic' and 'Peeping Tom'.
All i have to say is - i cannot believe i've only just started to listen to Placebo over the last two years....
I always regarded them as a band for the 'gay' crowd, but sure enough; after closer inspection, it's deeper than sexuality.
it's about the bloody knees and grit that makes us human - raw emotion.
