I'm lost
December 2004

MAY 13, 2006 01:32 PM

Tyra Banks, 32, is everywhere in the media, pulling stunts left and right bidding for ratings during sweeps week on her daily talk show. Banks' latest stunt was to have herself placed behind bars in order to investigate the plight of women who are incarcerated and the injustices that they experience.

While testing her fierceness, Banks was horrified by the prison conditions and therefore, invited some of the inmates to be on her show for a panel discussion.

She said: "It was one of the most shocking, eye-opening and terrifying experiences of my life. I felt violated.

"I was shocked to learn that the majority of women in prison are there because of their husbands or boyfriends.

"A lot faced life sentences and they could be from all walks of life. They could be your mother, your sister, even your daughter.

"These women truly touched my heart and what I learnt definitely changed my life forever."

While that is all fine and good, does she actually think that she, supermodel Tyra Banks, close personal friend of Oprah, is going to actually experience even a fraction of the reality of this situation? Well, I guess she’s trying, so good on her for the effort.

i saw her Wed in NYC crossing the street.

She is a lot thicker, stickier and pastier than I was expecting... not in a bad way, but it is clear her supermodel days are behind her.

Hey, man--she's opening her own eyes to something she'd never have to see if she didn't want to. That's more than most people ever do with their lives.

You mean our daughters, sisters, and mothers could be criminals?

Because typically, that's who is behind bars.

In the interviews that I've seen her in, she usually comes off as very smart. She seems like a cool lady. I'd like to hang out with her.

God forbid we hold any of them responsible for their actions. Obviously if they were involved with a male at the time of a crime, it must have been the male's idea.

Does she wonder why they hold those life sentences? Could it be because they killed an innocent person? I can never understand why people waste compassion and pity on murderers and violent criminals, because to do so is spitting in the face of their victims.

Burzum, you're right on thinking like that!
The US has some of the best correctional facilities in the world. These poor innocent convicts are receiving hot healthy meals dictated by nutritionists, excellent healthcare, educational & vocational training, and climate controlled housing at great expense to tax payers. The majority of the time these services and benefits are of a higher level then what they were used to before they were incarcirated. I'm not saying doing hard time is easy, but they were convicted for a reason.
They don't need nor deserve your pity or compassion. Save that for their victims.

When I am 90 years old and laying on my death bed, with my great grand children crying next to me, I am going to think back through my years and remember all the time I've wasted. I will remember the author of this article and I will ask god why I gave her moments of my life that could've been spent building aquariums for homeless fish, or spaying cats in my garage. I want you to know that I hate you author, I hate everything you stand for, and that everything you have ever written will never be good enough to print on the back of a packet of sugar. I have a bad taste in my mouth, and it is you.

If she ever felt like reporting on the plight of closeted bi-curious young English women, I would quite happily lock her up in my bedroom with me for a week. *nod*

the bit made me laugh.

btw, tyra banks is an annoying idiot. and that's saying quite a bit cause i can look the other way w/lots of stupid people on tv and not be bothered to comment or even have it register w/me...but i've probably seen five minutes of her show (various bits here and there while flipping thru the channels), and tyra, girl, you're the worst. the stripper/strip club show and the fat suit show are the most glaring examples of how she thinks she's smart and enlightening the rest of the world.

trya, you be stupid. shut up.
tony danza, however, is so bad (in a good way) that he can stay.
