This is so weird because I had all but forgotten about those books when I saw her name mentioned on last night's Family Guy. I checked online and saw that she was still alive, even though she wrote most of those books back in the '40s and '50s. You know she has a dorm named after her at UC-Berkeley?

This totally made my day.

Well, that and finishing law school.

Ramona Quimby, Defense Attorney.

YEAH! I would totally read Ramona and drink a lot to celebrate right now, but my childhood books are at my parents' house. So I will just drink instead.

YES!!! The Ramona books were my favorite when I was 8-9. I had "Ramona Quimby, Age 8" pretty much memorized.

I remember, in one of the books, when she talked about how her family was low on money and she couldn't have a proper sheep costume for the play. I felt so bad for her. frown

well i've finished two books. the entire thing reminds me of myself.
but this quote really nails it...

Arguing with ramona was a waste of time. So was appealing to her better nature. The best thing to do with ramona, beezus had learned, was to think up something to that place of whatever her mind was fixed upon.

so thanks blush

I remember there was a Ramona tv show that ran when I was small, and Sarah Polley played Ramona. Anyone else remember that? I don't recall if it was good or not...

I love that she recommends the library instead of kids buying books. I loved getting new books from the library when I was younger, it was a weekly ritual!

I was just about to post the same thing! I used to have episodes of that show! Then my dad taped over them and I was such a sad kitty... *sighs*... I miss it so much! I'm so glad you remember it, too! biggrin

i adored those books as a kid, and the tv show. I still think "Beezus and Ramona" is pure comedy genius. I used to listen to the tapes narrated by Stockard Channing. even now the sound of her ducet twang lulls me into a sense of childlike security. class.

the chick who played her in the tv show is grown up now and HOT, btw.
