fanboys, rejoice!

In response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie, as well as the original theatrical edition of the film. That means you'll be able to enjoy Star Wars as it first appeared in 1977, Empire in 1980, and Jedi in 1983.

See the title crawl to Star Wars before it was known as Episode IV; see the pioneering, if dated, motion control model work on the attack on the Death Star; groove to Lapti Nek or the Ewok Celebration song like you did when you were a kid; and yes, see Han Solo shoot first.

Shit- George Lucas is a genius!!

My Star Wars collection over the years:

-VHS copies of all three originals
-VHS box set of "remastered" originals
-VHS box set of "updated and improved" originals
-DVD box set of "updated and improved" originals

Now I have to pay for the originals again. I don't have to, but come on- who are we kidding? We'll all buy it.

I wasn't actually holding out, just not buying movies I've already seen...

But hell, I may as well get these when I have some spare cash. Go me for waiting.

Nice! I'm glad I didn't buy one of the fan-created laserdisc-to-DVD pirate versions off of eBay now.

It should be worth it for the ending of Return of the Jedi alone. The newest dvd version has fuckin' Hayden Christianson digitally placed over the original Darth Vader actor. Looks stupid.

Lucas is a genius because he actually invented a group of people who will buy anything he wants. He's like L Ron Hubbard for the unfamous.

yeah no shit. i can just see him behind a desk, hands in front of his face fingertip to fingertip, smiling because he knows fans will hate the additions to the first dvds, knowing he can undo them later and get people to buy the same fuckin movies again.

Is there a statute of limitations on false advertising?
I bought those when they came out, right before the "Digitally re mastered" versions were going to be re-released in theaters, and on the tape were the adverts they used to market the box set that you had just bought.

The commercials specifically said that the box set would be the absofuckinglutely last time you would be able to purchase the non re mastered version.

So all I want to know now is whether my refund check will be from "Skywalker Ranch" or "Arse Tickler's Faggot Fan Club".

The differences in the movies are fairly minimal. While I really hate that whole dance routine in Jabba's palace I can tolerate it...and I sure as shit won't be shelling out cash for these DVDs.

I've had the originals on DVD for a while because I downloaded the laserdisc rips, so he won't be getting any of my money.

It was so obvious that he'd eventually do this from the time the "Special Editions" were first released. He just had to wait long enough to let the fanboys have a chance to buy the same shit for a third time.

for a lot of people looking forward to these, i think it's just the principle of having the actual theatrical cuts. from what i've heard from other people, they don't even care that they're going to look and sound like crap (no remastering, only stereo sound, etc). i guess that just comes with the territory - otherwise, it could be considered, you know.. an alteration.

as far as multi-dipping goes, there's still no word on when a deluxe set of all six episodes will be released. maybe in 2007, to celebrate 30 years. it'll be timed perfectly, regardless, i'm sure.

Don't get me wrong, I've fallen for the multi-dip like a lot of people. I bought the Daredevil Directors Cut which I love, and will never watch the theatrical cut ever again....but i still have both versions.

I just figure for the time being I've got all I need from Star Wars. I have them in widescreen with decent sound and enough features. The boxset of all 6 episodes doesnt tempt me either because the only real thing it can offer me that the seperate DVDs doesnt have is more extras....and there's only so many times you can hear the same anecdotes about the making of Star Wars.

I'm sure that when I upgrade my TV and go all HD with the new technology in DVD players and stuff I'll probably buy Star Wars again; because the picture and sound will be better. As it stands I don't see any reason to bother for the time being.

The original theatrical release was simply titled "Star Wars".
