That mysterious force that roams our streets that for some reason or another, always seem to be in the right place at the right time.

Cops have a hold on my psyche, regardless if I've done nothing or I'm not doing anything wrong at all. Cop pulls up beside me, I let him go and I continue to trail him, going neither faster nor slower than him - which in the end, probably seems more suspicious than just passing him by.

So how do you react to them? Those who've dealt with them know they can be cool or a complete pain in the ass, so do you avoid confrontation altogether (unless of course cherries and berries are flashing) and watch what you're doing carefully? Or do you just say fuck it and go about your normal business? Even if that normal business is 5mph over the speed limit.

In Phoenix, everyone speeds - including the cops. The funny thing is, I've seen cops speeding down the very street I've gone down and either saw someone get pulled over, or I was pulled over in that same spot. I guess they reserve the right to enforce and break the law - but hey, I have no problem with that as long as I'm not on the end of the stick.

It always makes me a bit nervous. Which is stupid, because I'm all about driving under the speed limit, buying train tickets and not murdering people.

I have a lot of respect for Cops. It's a shitty job that someone has to do. I've had both good and bad experiences with Johnny Law, but I can't imagine life without them around and I really appreciate the job they do.

I always get a little lump in my stomach whenever I see flashing light cause of a bad experience with a police offer when I was 14, which involved excesive force, a k9 unit and a cocked and loaded shot gun. it was so bad after it happened that I seriously would almost vomit at the sight of flashing blue lights.

that said most cops begin the job cause they do want to actually help people, but it is the few who either join the force cause of power it provides and or who get corupted cause of the power it provides that ruin it for everyone else.

most of my experiences with cops have been with them coming to break up partys , and for the most part most of them don't want to do it anymore than you wan't the party broken up.

I was at a new years party that was being broken up and the cops were being pretty cool, just being like "sorry we've just gotten too many noise complaints and you guys need to clear out the party." the standard you don't have to go home but you can't stay hear. then some stupid wanna be crust punk threw a snow ball at the nicer of the cops and all sorts of shit hit the fan. hancuffs and billy clubs.

all and all it's a job and some people let the job get to them and some don't, much like any other job

I've had some very good experiences with police officers, and truthfully every time I was pulled over for something I deserved it. I like to speed, I freely admit that. Once a cop even helped us load a beer keg into a car when he had to break up the impromptu party in my apartment.

When I see them pull up behind me on the highway, I just flip on cruise control and stop worrying.

Exactly,

I used to have a fairly bad view of Cops untill I decided to be one. Granted I was only a Seasonal Police Officer (Resort towns hire extra cops during the summer) but I found out just how hard it was and how much shit you take. About 50% love you and 50% hate your guts.

There will always be some bad cops but what do you expect when the salary is so low and they are forced to deal the worst parts of our society. Most Cops however are good.

I stay calm, polite, and respectful. I've had nothing but good experences dealing with cops. Truth is, had I been able to, I probably would have become a police officer myself.

i agree. i've had a lot of bad experiences with cops as a kid, but my town is really small and it's easy to remember the bad cops when they're trying to bust you for no good reason all the time.

since i've moved to the city, i've developed a much larger respect for the job that they do. good cops are some of the best people around, and i'm glad that they're here. but i still get fidgety if a cop is next to me while i'm driving. blush

if they're nice to me I'll be nice back, if not, then I get in trouble. Last time I mouthed off I got taken downtown stripped naked and beaten up by a bunch of them. I respect real cops, I just don't come across that many where I live here.

I always thought about being a cop, but where I live and who my friends are... ah... that wouldn't work out so good.

I've always had pretty good experiences with cops, so I dunno why I'm so edgy when I see one. Never met an asshole cop either, luckily for me. First time I got pulled over for speeding, I didn't have my registration, but he let it go anyway, though he still gave me the ticket for speeding. 15 over is pretty hard to ignore I guess.

My luckiest break would have had to been the time I left a party drunk and high driving my friends car with him in the passengers seat. I was driving fairly carefully and got pulled over because "I turned half a second to early into the turning lane and almost hit the curb", which I still think is bullshit - but whateva surreal He asked me if I was drunk - I said yes - he asked me why I was driving - I said "because he's more drunk than me". He made me breathe into the machine and I apparently came out just a slightly few points under the legal limit. He said he could be an asshole and take me to jail for the night, or I could park in the nearby parking lot and get a cab - the choice was fairly obvious. Little did he know, I was stoned out of my mind - despite the fact that I probably shouldn't have been driving while intoxicated anyway.

Silly cops, but you gotta love the few nice ones out there. My friend and I had a pretty good laugh at the whole thing - we were both pretty fucked up.

I used to work at a law firm that exclusively represented victims of police brutality.

I represented a man with an IQ of 63, who was beaten and tasered three times on his neighbor's front porch while neighbors screamed to leave him alone, and was never charged with any crime.

There was the soccer mom beaten on the side of a dangerous highway, for speeding, while her two babies screamed in the car.

There was the man who was shot when complying with police instructions to get out of the car with his hands up, simply because he was Mexican and the officers were white.

And so many others. The autopsy reports I had to read, the oozing taser wounds I had to inspect ... it made me so sick I had to quit.

To this day I can't see a cop without freezing -- or noting his star and vehicle numbers.

Can anyone explain what makes a Taser wound ooze? And what does it ooze?

I read this 2-3 times this week and I don't understand. Thanks.

I'm comfortable around them (my parents/step-parents are all either cops or corrections officers), and am always respectful (these days, anyway). I do, however, instinctively check the speedometer when I see one while driving for some reason, even though I never speed.

Cops don't scare me. But I'm a lawyer, so that could have something to do with it.

As an aside, I've been pulled over in the neighborhood of 7 times and have never gotten a ticket, even though I've deserved at least 5 of them. And that was before law school, even.

Cops follow me a lot. Usually they won't pull me over, but it still sucks to have them fly up on my ass and ride my bumper through town.
