Little Brown has now pulled the book from the shelves.
Or in reality asked the booksellers to pull the book from the shelves and return it to them.

the awesome thing was because my students were being filmed they were like twice as talkative as usual.

Bring a video camera to class from now on - that'll keep them talking.

And related to the thread - you shouldn't copy things and make money off of them - it's not very nice to the person who created it in the first place.

And Viswanathan writes on page 46 of Opal Mehta: “In a truly masochistic gesture, they had decided to buy Diet Cokes from Mrs. Fields...”

The real crime here is that she got $500k to write poorly constructed, passive-voice sentences.

I had decided that this girl's writing has been painful to be reading.

I don't get it. If you're going to plagarize, why would you plagarize utter crap?

because if you plagarize best sellers there is a much better chance of getting caught.

Er, she plagarized two books that, while they may not have made the NY Times best seller list, were both utter crap and popular enough to be easily recognizable. So, no.

Wow, she hit the stupid, dishonest and bad taste trifecta. Go her.

But, at least she'll have that Harvard education to fall back on.

Yes, but she didn't plagiarize either of the books, it turns out. Her packager (who also "packaged" the other book) did.
