Contact Music says director Quentin Tarantino has signed on to direct a Jimi Hendrix biopic. Apparently, Tarantino is working with Leon Hendrix, Jimi's brother, to flesh out the project. The final version will include live documentary footage of Hendrix. Shooting is scheduled to start later this year.
QUENTIN TARANTINO has reportedly signed on to direct the long-awaited JIMI HENDRIX biopic. The PULP FICTION movie-maker is huge fan of the script of the film, according to producers at Dragonslayer Films, and will team up with Hendrix's brother LEON to tell the story of the guitar great's life. Tarantino will have full access to Hendrix's music and likeness when he starts shooting is scheduled to begin later this year (06) in Seattle, Washington; New York, Toronto, Canada; and London. Senior executive producer ELLE VON LEAR has access to interviews and live footage of the rock legend, which will be incorporated in the film.
It seems like a new Tarantino rumor pops up every month or so (remember Friday the 13th XII or the Vega Brothers). Seeing as Death Proof is still in pre-production and Inglorious Bastards hasn't even reached that point, color me skeptical.
The odds of this happening with QT at the helm are roughly the same as the odds of finding a picture of Iggy Pop wearing a shirt buried in a crater on the moon.
I've actually heard Andre 3000 rumours before, though this is the first I've heard about QT's involvement. I agree that Andre would look the part, but Jimi in person was not at all like his onstage persona; he was very shy and introverted. I hope they get the characterisation right.
The last Hendrix bio was so so so bad, even though the guy they got to play him did a great job of talking like him. He just couldn't move or play anything close to Jimi so it looked terrible. Plus it had the production value of an afterschool special.
I can just imagine, the movie opens with Jimi Hendrix lying in a pool of his own puke.
I don't like Tarantino at the helm of this project.
I think it would make much more sense (not to mention would make for a million times more beautiful movie) for Michel Gondry to direct it. I mean who would be better at capturing on film the emotional essence of Jimi Hendrix, while still beautifully painting the psychotropic picture of the 70s rock scene? Besides, Gondry is known for his incredible music videos, so to give him this movie would be obvious.
It really isn't that weird, though. Tarantino has said that he wants to direct basically every kind of genre movie before he retires. He started with Jackie Brown.
Blacksploitation, action, horror, war, and now biopic (if this goes through).

He's probably talking about Tarantino's long-planned war movie, Inglorious Bastards. Legendary 600-page script and all...

You said it my man.
Tarantino is a legend, but with legends come the "He's eight feet tall!" and the "His cock drags four feet behind him!", except in this case it's his production schedule.
I've been waiting for Inglorious Bastards for maybe 5 or 6 years now. It's sick.
