so. i was wondering. did anyone here ever do other people's school work for money? or do you think it's morally and ethically wrong?

i love doing it 'cause it's fast, easy money. but my family gets mad at me 'cause i always complain when people cheat. but my answer is, the people i do this for are no competition for me, and i do a bad job on what i do for them so it looks as though they actually did it. i hate people cheating 'cause i would be mad if they got a better mark than me, when they don't deserve it. anyways.... have fun with this one you guys.

okay, this is not a thread to say if what i do is right or wrong. i want to know did YOU do other people's work in school? a simple yes or no and maybe, if you're so inclined, an explanation would be nice.

I did it once, freshman year of college. I really needed the money, but I've felt terrible about it ever since.

i made that "cheating" thing clear 'cause i knew someone would bring it up.

and i just knew i'd get some bashing from starting a thread, but i was purely curious.
and the first comment was a shot at me! see how good i am?

so, you're in fact cheating THEM by doing a crappy job on something they're paying you for?

top notch, guy.

I've got to be blunt here, I'm afraid: If you help people cheat for money, you have absolutely no right to bitch or be sanctimonious about those who are in competition with you and cheat. Anyway, to answer your original question, no I didn't do other people's school work. Aside from the fact that I would have felt wrong by doing it, I always had more than enough work of my own to do; let alone taking on someone else's.

exactly. i mean, it comes down to, them not doing it and getting zero, or me doing a half-assed job, and them getting a mark. and they don't ever give me any expectations, so....

i know, and that's exactly what my family says. so don't be afraid.

thank you and mamet.... for answering. is it wrong that i don't feel guilty? the cathc is though, i already have all my work done, so i copy my work, but only half as much as i have done, and give it to them. so i can make $30 in a mere ten minutes.

That was my experience.

Ethics aside, you're doing the other students a disservice by denying them the education they need.

oh yes, they need it, but have they ever tried to obtain it? i do this for al the rich kids who coast through life knowing they get daddy's business as soon as they're done grade 12.

I think the person who chooses to cheat is at blame ultimately, if they want to kid themselves, let them do it. Their lack of ability/knowledge will (hopefully) come out in the wash. However, to assist people in doing this is pretty irresponsible.

you're also making it easy for people to stay in school who aren't using the system and learning from it. and they're taking up a spot that a lot of people would appreciate the opportunity to have.

I'd let them fail if they are not willing to work for a grade.

no. i didn't. unless it was a group project and then i often would lug the entire team over the finish line myself. Because if you want something done right, you do it yourself.

so you're graduating this year I assume? Do you plan to do this same thing in college?

I used to write papers for people for $20 a page. This one frat guy got me to do all the papers for one of his classes--but he had to buy a new Norton Anthology for each one--he'd lose them after each paper. Too funny.

Anyway, I wasn't in school, so it didn't bother me. whatever

I did it once in college because my friend was dyslexic...and he gave me and my roommates a week's worth of steaks (butcher's son).

On the one hand, I felt pretty bad for doing it...I don't like helping people cheat. On the other hand, all of us at the time were starving to death because we were running out of student loan money.

I dunno. Guess the moral is, is that principles are expensive sometimes...and sometimes I'm just not that strong. So, y'know...whatevs.

No I didn't cheat in school at any level.

School was difficult for me and I worked hard for all my grades. My hard work can not be bought by someone who is just being lazy.

yeah, i was away as an exchange student for a year, so i'm a year behind now whatever .
when i go to university, i HIGHLY doubt i'll be doing it. i'm positive i won't beucase in reality, i'm not that smart, the education system up here is terrible, and i think that if i moved down south, i wouldn't be getting the same amrks as i do here. and, plus, i'm assuming in university you actually have to do work. here, we barely get any homework, and everything is a breeze for me. so.... i really wish i grew up in europe, they have such an amazing school system there.

I did that too, as I didn't want my grades to suffer because I'd been teamed up with some lazy half-wit. In fact I still have to do that at Uni when we're made to do a brief in groups; although for one of them, my tutor recognised it all as my work, failed them and passed me. Karma, bitches. biggrin

Oh, man.

A friend of mine started up a "study aid" website, where, for a price, you could download "sample" essays to "study and learn from." He kept asking me for some of my old essays to upload onto the site. He said he'd pay me. Pretty handsomely, too. I always declined, though. When I write a good essay, I'm really proud of it, and especially proud to call it my own. I can't stand the thought of other people taking that credit where it's not due.

That's my two cents on the matter. To each their own, right?

Somehow during my freshman year of college I managed to convince one of my professors that it would be to everyone's benefit if I was allowed to complete a certain group project all on my own. I was spared the worry of lazy people, half-wits, and coordinating my busy schedule with others.

It was an easy A. But if I'd worked with one of the other groups, I'm sure we would have scored only a B or C, unless I decided to take the whole group over.

I hate group work.

ugh, i know what you guys mean about group work. everyone always wanted to be my partner 'casue they knew i was smart and would do everything. i'd assign each person something really simple that they could whip up right there and then manage everythingelse on my own. but we would get personal AND group marks.

lissom says:

that's a sweet deal.

i hate people copying my tests. like, i don't ever do this with essays or tests. 'cause it's easy to spot a copied essay, and i hate people cheating in tests. this one kid always walks to "blow his nose" as soon as i see him get out of his desk, i cover my papers, 'cause i know i'm his target. but i do assignments for him, 'cause he's one of those rich kids, get's a hardware store and the garbage truck company. i think i'm the only rich kid in town who's father made it himself and instilled work ethics and aspirations into his children....

When I was a Juinior in High School I finished a final in ridiculous time, with what I knew was an A+. I was not allowed to leave early, so I reached over and grabbed the test of a kid near me, he would have failed without me making sure he got at least a C. I did it because I owed his older brother for something earlier in the year. His brother stopped me from beating some other kid up, and kept me from getting suspended. I felt I needed to do something for him, so I got his little brother through English class.
