Help with project on homelessness

Whuh?

Only the most privileged, ignorant person could say that...or at least one who has never been homeless or known a homeless person. It might be "intangible" from the perspective of someone with a roof and meals all paid for, but for most of us, it's pretty fucking tangible.

That there is a fundamental difference between the majority of homeless and those with homes (besides the obvious).

It's houses they need. Low cost housing for the homeless. They're houseless, not homeless.

You know what the homeless don't need? Pointless fucking semantics.

A large percentage of homeless people are medically (mentally) ill. Another portion had a simple run of bad luck. Another never had a chance in life (terrible homelife, etc.). Another portion choose to live on the street.

Actually, some "homeless" prefer the term "houseless".

Homeless people could get a job if they wanted one

Which name do they prefer?:

Hobo
Bum
Homeless
Transient
Indigent
Houseless
Outdoorsmen

Assumptions-

Homeless people will use any change you give them to buy drugs/alcohol.
Homeless people don't want to work.
Homeless people all come from broken homes.
Homeless people aren't really homeless! (They're just scag heads after your cash!!)
Homeless people who sell The Big Issue are 'legitimate' homeless and therefore are the only ones you should give money to.

Can't think of any more...

Not in a deragatory sense, it was just shorter than writing 'homeless' or 'transient' 20X..... Besides many of the homeless I worked with jokingly refered to themselves as "bums"

Since you said you worked with the homeless I though it might be something like that. Thanks for the additional insight.

assumptions:

homeless are dumb, unintelligent people.
uneducated...
drunks or druggies -just watch any movie with a homeless person in it and they show them drinking or shooting up...etc.
Society has shunned them or given up on them...

Just some assumptions...and thoughts
I can state that a large majority are indeed mentally ill and have been cast out by society...which is some sad shite!

I always thought that hobos was meant to apply to nomadic homeless folk. Generally those who ride freight trains.

Don't forget: "I heard that homeless guy over there makes $100,000 a year. Somebody said they saw him drive off in a Jag."

-The majority of them are "faking" and using the whole thing as a hustle
-They choose to be homeless
-They all deserve to end up homeless because they fucked up huge
-None of us will ever end up like them
