tough question.

theres only so much hedberg material (for obvious reasons) to listen to. david cross is fucking funny, and dane cook is as well, but he gets old fast. if it was a choice of seeing them *cough* live, id go with Mitch. all the way.

And I'd personally go with Hedberg.

I have absolutely no idea why Dane Cook is popular, his jokes seem childish and sophomoric to me.

Hedberg is the best of the three.

I have to go with David Cross, because of the variety of his material. I mean, his CD's aren't maybe as good as Mitch Hedburg's or Dane Cook's, but I can laugh straight through Run Ronnie Run (even though the studio fucked with it so much). That, and he's motherfucking Tobias on Arrested Development. RIP. skull

What about BILL HICKS?

Without whom none of these guys would have a career.

Personally, I think Cross is the closet to carrying the torch.

Hedberg was lost too soon.

Cook is funny, but he uses physical slapstick as a crutch too often. He also seems to care too much about being liked by his audience.

I think dane cook is popular because of some wierd impression that he's indie rock or something. At least that's what I've picked up from his fans. I agree with acetracer, he is childish.
I prefer cross.

That's a pretty blanket statement that doesn't make much sense.

Without Bill Hicks Dennis Leary wouldn't have a career, but I hardly think any of the people mentioned in this thread are that similar to Hicks.

content: cross

if i had to choose just one, cook. laughing and being horny is the way to go. biggrin

It seems he's just one of these people that is suddenly "hip" to like. He uses pop culture references, he's on MySpace, he identifies with the young indie emo geek is chic crowd.

But as a comedian, he's no funnier than that random guy at college parties screaming out an endless run of one liners.
