I looked, didn't find a topic of this nature. So Im just curious, how much alcohol do you have to imbibe before you start to feel anthing?
For me, it's about 8 beers, 5 shots, or, oddly enough only 2 glasses of wine.

And since I am currently on beer #9...this thread seemed like a good idea.

I'm no longer a drinker (probably because of what I'm about to say), but I'd feel it after one shot. Tipsy after two, pissed by four. It saved me a hell of a lot of money when I was a drunken student type.

And tolerance-bragging threads are always a good idea.

Before i start puking and saying stupid shit i can't remember?

7 cocktails (usually electric ice teas or jager and cokes)

9 or 10 shots (usually tequila or an alcohol/pepper thing a friend of mine does)

3 glasses of wine

Never got drunk on beers, i don't like em much.

Having said that, I'm ashamed of my tollerance levels cause they've been achieved from stead three times a week drinking sessions

Well, I like to drink until my mouth is quite tingly, which is usually like, 9-10 shots of your average 40 proof liquor (I prefer JD, or apple vodka)

Currently very little which does save me a lot of money on nights out biggrin (and also means when I met my ladys parents for the first time we were both quite drunk, yet somehow they actually liked me)

Depends on a lot of factors, include my health, sleep and food intake.
Sometimes as little as 2 rum and cokes, sometimes a lot more.

well, to be incoherent drunk (oddly, the only time its ever happened), it took me a few beers, an entire pan of dbl strength jello shots, the rest of the bottle of Absolut, shots of Crown (like 4 or 5), some tequila body shots, a few shots of Lava and some Jager. its funny but it takes enough booze to give me alcohol poisoning to get me drunk biggrin to just start to feel it, it takes about 5 shots of Crown or similar.

3 double vodka/whiskey/rum & cokes to feel a bit tipsy, not properly drunk...sometimes more frown
I'm trying to lower this as 1) not healthy 2) too much money 3) need to stop dancing like an utter fool.

6 Hornsby's
4 Smirnoff Ices
4 or 5 shots
about 3 glasses of wine depending on the type

...and no beer... since it's nasty and I don't drink it!

Er, everyone seems to be ignoring the time factor here. Drunk is a function of how fast booze gets into your bloodstream versus how fast it gets out. The average person can metabolize about a drink an hour. If you drink two drinks an hour for an hour, you're buzzed. If you drink two drinks an hour for five hours, you're hammered.

Watch the clock, kids.

Excellent point.

and...if I may offer some anecdotal evidence...I think many people bullshit about how much they can drink without "feeling it", anyway. I can't possibly count how many times I've heard...."man, I had, like...12 beer and I wasn't feeling ANYTHING"

It varies so wildly that I can't really clock it. Yesterday I slowly drank a glass of wine, and by the end of the glass I could feel it. One time I drank two bottles of wine rather quickly and was admittedly fairly trashed by the end of it, but after just one I was probably where I was from the glass last night. I've tried to figure out how food affects it, but again, there's nothing consistent.

Oh, and once, and I never believe stories like this when people tell me them, but once I drank nine shots in an hour or so of different types of booze, including Gentleman Jack, Southern Comfort 100, vodka and whiskey. I didn't throw up or black out and I woke at 7:25 the next day (about five minutes before my alarm was supposed to go off) feeling fine. I haven't a clue how the fuck that happened.

Seriously. On a full stomach and seven drinks in three hours, my pants are still on and I'm not puking, but I'm certainly feeling it.

I can't really drink more than a beer or a glass of wine anymore.

When I lived in Russia I had a housewarming party and did it Russian-style. I downed 13 shots of vodka and two beers in two hours. (I weigh 105 lbs.) I woke up naked in the bathtub, couldn't move for half a day, and ate nothing but a handful of saltines for the following week. That was it for me.

Wow, I feel lucky now to be a skinny boy. If I drink two beers really fast I get a pretty good buzz, and after four or five I'm tossed. Couple of shots and it's party time. That's right, I'm a cheap date.

I'm the same way, one heavy night will put me off booze for a long time. I only have about a drink or two these days, because on halloween I had 2 large drinks, each containing almost half a liter of solichnaya. I had no food in me either and little sleep. Needless to say I started the halloween party in a leather gimp suit, I ended the night on my bed in a santa suit doing the cabbage pach...

...I don't feel the need to drink much for a while...

Yep, the time factor is huge. I can drink all day long with just a mild buzz going, when wine tasting. It is all about spreading it out and going to bathroom as needed.

Now, to answer the question, I've noticed over the years that my appreciation of the buzz is quite different to when I was younger. It used to be 8 shots +, but now 3 will get me to happy place quickly. Shots are so crude though, unless you're shooting grappa. I'd rather drink a cosmopolitan, or a variation on a martini. Or at least a snifter of single malt.

The preference of course is wine, and with that it really depends on the wine I'm drinking and the size of the glass I'm drinking out of. About 4-5 of the standard glasses. The large red wine glasses that I typically drink out of 2 1/2 to 3..

2 filled half way sommelier glasses leads to a complete wipeout. Time doesn't seem to help.

I've had a lot of beer and appreciated the buzz, but never been wiped out on it. I'm not even sure how much beer I can drink, but I have no interest in finding out.
