First off, get over the use of the word "news" in the thread title. It's a reference to the "newswire", the collective blog, in order to distinguish those threads from the normal ones, not a commentary on the importance of the thread or the story.

Regarding the new Celeb Worship stories... I'm getting sick of comments like "I don't give a fuck" or "why should we care?" or "This is NEWS??" on EVERY. SINGLE. STORY. I can only conclude that people were somehow confused by the thread titles and felt tricked into clicking on them. To test that theory, let's look at some recent CELEB headlines:

-Cher to Come Out of Retirement?
-Gyllenhaal and Sarsgard Engaged and Expecting
-Is Britney Still Do-Able?
-Where Will Bragelina Drop that Kid?
-Jessica Simpson Feels Threatened by Younger "Star"
-Flockhart Admits Eating Disorder

...hmm... nooo... these all seem pretty self explanatory. I can only conclude, then, that anyone who clicked on such a thread and still felt compelled to comment "THIS IS NEWS??!" is... a douchebag. You really can't argue with that, it's science!

Furthermore, we friends and members of Celeb Worship do not, ironically, worship the rich and the famous. As it says in the group info... we are haters. We have a lot of fun making fun of people who are or have been more beautiful and successful and famous than we have ever been or are ever likely to be. If you don't have fun doing that... there are a million other threads over there --->.

In other words, if you're not interested, don't click on it. Don't spoil our fun just because you don't enjoy it.

As a former editor, I can tell you that it's harder than it looks to find and write up interesting stories, and part of the fun of doing it is reading the discussion that follows from other people that find it amusing and/or interesting. It's not a highly-compensated position, so when you're an asshole in the comments, it's very discouraging. If you don't like one story, you might still like other stories. If you want to keep getting other stories... don't be a douchebag.

I was wondering why nobody seemed to notice the new news divisions that allow for different kinds of stories... People seemed to post as if these changes hadn't been made and that no one ANYWHERE EVER would or even SHOULD be interested in any celebrity's life.

It's not a highly-compensated position

I don't know how compensated they are, but they are compensated. And though I've never made a comment like that, I too was an editor once and don't remember there being as much fluff then as there is now.

However, to each his own. I thoroughly enjoy the Geek stories, and leave the Celeb people to their own vices.

Also, Dr. Frank's articles were never news, and they were some of my favs.

There's a ripple in the news market today. But I agree with Keith. If you don't have something nice to say, keep it to yourself.

Here's why it bothers me: I'm often interested in the CULTURE news. I'm not interested at all in 99% of the CELEB news. I typically interact with the news threads through the boards, where the two are not distinguished. If the thread titles were prefaced with the type of news, rather than just "NEWS:", it would be easier to do as you suggest and just not click into them.

you could also take the two extra seconds it takes to read the title of the thread.
