I'm lost
OLD SKOOL

JAN 11, 2003 10:51 PM

Now's your chance to mention any famous people you know, that you've ever met or had any sort of brief encounter with.

My list is pretty unfair since I live in Hollywood, but I find this fun and interesting. Especially the "star spotting" thing.

I've met:
Howard Stern and the whole crew (I was a guest on the show)
Fairuza Balk (obviously)
Kim Basinger (in Lake Tahoe)
Casey Niccoli (Perry Farrell's ex)
Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger)
Dennis Rodman (we were invited to a party at his club, and another one at his house)
Ozzy and Sharon and Jack Osbourne (through some friends who were signed to the Divine label.)
Marilyn Manson (the entire band - at a meet and greet)
Gene Simmons (he tried to pick me up at a NIN show. I ran like Hell)
Johnny Knoxville (talked to him on the phone!)
Ben from the Murderdolls (at a club)
Jason "Wee Man" Acuna (he spanked my ass with his skateboard at a Slayer Record Release party)

Seen or spotted:
Laura Prepon (at the grocery store)
Madonna Wayne Gacy aka: Pogo from Manson (at a club)
Christina Ricci (at the DMV)
Shiri Appleby (walked into a club - god! she was gorgeous)
Neil Patrick Harris (at the movies)
Zack de la Rocha (he lives near me, so I see him a lot)
Gwen Stafani (we went to the same Halloween party)
Gavin Rossdale (same Halloween party, and at the Coffee Bean)
Drew Barrymore (walking her dogs in Runyan Canyon)
George Carlin (driving)
Nicholas Cage (driving)
Christian Slater (driving)
Jon Davis of Korn (at the grocery store)
Glenn Danzig (at a club, and at the grocery store)
Pam Anderson (driving)
Shannon Doherty (having lunch)
Anka Radakovich (walked by her)
Fabio (that creep offered me a ride once)
The kid who played Rusty Griswold in the sequels to National Lampoon's Vacation "allegedly" sold me pot once (this is 100% true, actually - we were at his house)

I won't list the musicians that I know or am close with, or that I've interviewed for my work because the list is far too long - I'm a freelance music journalist, so .. you can see why I won't bother.

I know:
Pauly Shore
Jonah Matranga
Kevin Smith

I am close friends with:
Johnny Goudie
Jason Mewes ... which, in turn, gave me the opportunity to meet and/or hang out with:

Jason Lee
Eliza Dushku
Kevin's wife, Jen
Alanis Morrisette
Brian O'Halloran
Brendan Fehr (roswell)
Majandra Del Fino (roswell)

WOW! I strted this honestly thinking it would just be a handful of people! eeek I'm gonna stop now!

Kevin is actually one of the sweetest men I have ever met. He's genuinely a good, warm person and he's scary smart. He intimidates the shit out of me because of that brain. Jay, of course, is a mess, but he's a loveable one. He's my baby and I love him, but I would really like to kick his ass right now.

I saw Bad News Allen (aka Brown) at an indy show once, same with Manny Fernadez. They rocked.

Playboy Buddy Rose touched my head when I was little.

I saw Morris Day in a resturaunt, and Kevin Johnson (former Guard for the Phoenix Suns) at my school.

I met this guy and his wife who made a documentry on Bingo, they were cool... but I guess they aren't celebrities but the documentry rocked.

Johnny! Good lord, how funny. I used to know him when he was part of the Houston music scene back in the late 80's, early 90's. He used to play in a band called Panjandrum who were doing really well for awhile, although I had met him even before that when he was playing with another band that I forget the name of -- 'Time' something -- at the Axiom. At that time I was in a band called The Change. Johnny was always a great guy. Very enthusiastic and supportive.

Let's see, other people...

I went to High School with Helen Childress, the woman who wrote "Reality Bites," and she told me many of the characters were based on people I know. In fact, she told me that the band (Hey That's My Bike) was in some way based on the cover band I had in High School, in which I sang lead.

I also went to High School with Renee O'Connor (Gabrielle from Xena the Warrior Princess), who was 2 or 3 years younger than me. We didn't really talk during school, but we ran into each other once after I graduated and discovered we both knew who the other was. She was so cute. Never saw her again, though. Until she was on TV, of course. That was kind of a mindfuck, let me tell you.

While working in food service in Houston and New York, I served or very nearly served the following:

Roy Orbison (yes, no shit! Several months before he died)
Richard Belzer
Edward Albee
Peggy Lipton
Dr. Ruth Westheimer (a regular customer - one day she told me "I think I am becoming addicted to your cappucinos!" One of the most surreal moments of my life.)
Steve Martin
Peter Boyle
Sigourney Weaver
Gloria Steinem

While working in the fashion industry, I met or crossed paths with:

Tori Amos (she was SOOOO cool)
Marianne Faithfull
Calvin Klein

That's about all I can think of at the moment.

i met chloe sevigny at a pavement concert back in '97 -- she was SUPER NICE.

also, i met jason lee at kona back around '89 or '90. he was cool and surprisingly tall. the irony of it, was that i was thrilled to meet a professional skateboarder -- i had no idea he' go on to be a famous actor.

While in High School, I used to mentally torment Neil Patrick Harris (Dougie Howser) as he was a good friend's little brother and an annoying pest during the filming of Clara's Heart.

As for the run-ins/small conversations (by city and location):
Seattle:
Kim Thyall (Flying Fish)
Jerry Cantrell (Flying Fish)
Chris Cornell (Jazz Alley)
Eddie Vedder (as he was getting carded at the Crocodile)
Courtney Love (Crocodile)
Peter Buck (Crocodile, obviously since his wife owns it)
Jessica Alba (Brasa--she's purty)
Bill Nye (the Bon and Icon Grill)
Members of Blink 182, Green Day, Jimmy Eat World (Tacoma Dome--I got backstage passes through work)
Sacha from KMFDM (through a friend working on a game)
Many others, but not worth mentioning

London:
Kevin Spacey (Metropolitan Hotel elevator: my words to him--"What floor?" He said "fifth")
Grace Jones (Nobu---she thought I was someone else...I still talked to her out of fear for my life)
Samuel L. Jackson (Nobu--damn he's cool)
Gavin Rossdale (Met Bar--very nice guy and very tall)
David Hasselhoff (Met Bar--he's big in Germany and kept elbowing me in the back--sorry he's a world class prick and that wasn't his wife he was with)
Lenny Kravitz (Metropolitan Hotel Lobby--he's short)
Tom & Nicole (Nobu before they broke up--only stared)
Tom Jones (Met Bar--the entire bar sang it's not unusual for him)
Martha fucking Stewart drunk off her ass at the Met Bar...made my fucking year
Fran "the Nannie" Dresher (Metropolitan Hotel--Yes, she's that annoying)

LA/SB:
Krist Novoselic (House of Blues--really cool guy...very, very cool)
Jerry Springer (Sky Bar at the Mondrian--wait that wasn't his wife)
Dennis Miller (Santa Barbara movie theater--he was very uncomfortable)
Jason Hervey from the Wonder Years (at a gaming conference in LA--he was a bitter little man)
Bo Diddley (some Santa Barbara club--he was drinking a smoothie)
Klaus Flouride (UCSB--he changed my life even though he wasn't playing with the Dead Kennedys at the time--he was playing with a jazz fusion band called Five Year Plan).

i'm good friends with Desmond Barritt, a somewhat famous (and extremely talented) British stage actor. if you saw the new version of "A Christmas Carol" with Patrick Stewart as Scrooge, Des played the Ghost of Christmas Present.

in London:
Colin Firth (at the market)
Hugh Jackman (on the street)
Madonna (jogging)
Judi Dench (she was using a room at my school for a rehearsal space)

otherwhere:
Incubus (played ping-pong with 'em and talked to Brandon for a long while)
Milo from the Descendents (uber-cool guy)
God Lives Underwater (smoked up with 'em)
Vinnie from Less Than Jake (knocked me over in a mosh pit)

hrm, i think that's it... i've got one-degree of seperation from a lot of people, but i've yet to meet them.

I met Jonathan Frakes at a UK screening of Star Trek Generations, but neither of us had pen or paper, so no autograph, but I did get to shake hands with Commander Rikersmile
When I was younger (about 6-7), a friend of my mother used to be a model (mainly catalogue work) and at one of her shoots, I got a cuddle from Sara Stockbridgesmile Had the biggest crush on her ever sincelove
I met Peter David at a book signing a few years ago, and he signed two of my books. One to me, the other to my pen name wishing me luck with my writing career. Why they didn't make New Frontier the new Star Trek series rather than Enterprise is beyond me...
