Unless there're some 360 games that you're really eager to play, don't bother. Same goes for PSP, actually. Is there really nothing else you want?

Meh. I wouldn't get either for some time yet. Let the price drop and the pool of games and peripherals grow.

However, if for some reason you must spend the money now, and must spend it on one of the two, I'd do the 360 (if you can find one), because the tiny handful of worthwhile games blow away the tiny handful of worthwhile games for the PSP.

And if you want a PSP for things like MP3s and wi-fi, you don't want a PSP, you want a PDA.

Then get a PDA and don't waste your cash on a PSP.

well hehe advent children and movies are one other reason. see i travel ALOT. no less then two hours a day and about 3 times a year a 20 hour bus ride to my mom's house.

i just don't know... cuz 360 has ff11 but i need dsl for that.

would a PDA be better then a psp? or is it just a price thing?

get a ipod video. Sounds like it's all you are asking for. PSP has the shittiest sound quality for listening to mp3's the volume is way too low. And with the ipod you save $100 to buy your favorite shows and movies wink

not to mention you will need to get a 1gig memcard for the psp to watch your movies , and it was like $150 last I checked.

Yeah, and the PSP screen is kinda small for movies if being able to watch movies on it is one of its main selling points for you. I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives in the form of a portable DVD player or something. Or save up for a laptop?

True, I'm not sure there are PDAs that would do video very well. Most PDAs these days should be able to do music, wireless internet, and also run a wide variety of other programs and games, including eBook readers (if you're so inclined.). But a PSP is a bad choice for video because the format is going the way of the dodo.

Really, it's a handheld gaming console that has some other features that may be useful if you don't have a dedicated device to perform those functions. The one unique selling point are the particular games available for it. If that's not your concern, don't bother.

And, yeah, I hadn't thought about the iPod Video, but I suppose that would work also.

Keep in a mind, $400 dollars won't even get you the full XBox 360 system. Not with all the bells and whistles. For the full experience, plan on spending at least $600.

Preferably in a high-yield savings account. Those things are going to be EXPENSIVE.

(But god do I want one.)

as much as i love my 360, i agree with some of the above posts; 400 isn't going to get you out of the door unless you're getting the core pack (sans hard drive), and even that will be without a game. before i even owned a game for my system, i had blown about 450; 400 for the system, a bit less than 30 for tax (although i don't know what sales tax is in wisconsin), and i also had the foresight to pick up a play and charge kit as well, which is convenient and will save a fortune down the line (although the batteries tend to last about 35 hours). that was 20 and tax as well. so you'll see we're up to 465 or so, without a game. that's with just one controller. next, i didn't have an hdtv (yet), and i didn't want to play in composite-vision, so i dropped 25 plus tax on an s-video cable. so we're almost at 500, again, with no game. and the games are 60 unless they're first party. never anticipate buying a console with only the msrp. always factor in at least another 100 as a cushion to make sure you're playing something with that shiny new system. my tally isn't even including the new hdtv i bought because of the 360 (it was my gateway drug) or the vga adapter i bought to get the best picture with the system. luckily i already had a surround sound system, or, well, it would be more ramen noodles for me. so, what i'm saying is, save your money for a bit, if you can.

Meh. There's nothing you don't get in the 400 dollar Xbox 360 pack that you actually *need* except games.

(well, except a television, but I tend to assume people buying consoles have a TV.)

i've had a psp since the japanese launch day and a 360 since the uk launch day, and to be honnest they have both been a bit of a let down. comparing the two at the moment game wise the psp would be your best choice imho.

given you'll be traveling a fair ammount every day it'll give you the option to watch video, listen to music (yes not the best for the job but it's an addon not a feature really) and play games, if you're into it GTA for the psp is pretty fun (and the multiplayer with a few friends if hillarious if you can), lumines is good for passing time as it's kinda addictive in a pacman/tetris kinda way, archer maclean's mercury is kinda the same for time passing puzzle based infuriatingness, got a few good racing games out too burnout legendsif good for a laugh, nfs most wanted i havent played much but seems pretty fun too, and splinter cell essentials has just come out wich is pretty cool... damn i sound like and advert... haven't checked out the UMD movie front except watching akira for about 3 mins on me mates psp but it seemed a bit crazy shelling out the same price as a dvd for something you can only watch on a psp... but you can get programs to convert from dvd>psp format with a decent memory card so if movies are essential and you don't mind converting some stuff i spose that'd work...

as for the 360 given your unable to get the full version (i'm sure ff11 will need the hdd in some form or another to get the 'full' experience) i wouldnt say there is much point especialy as you won't be buying any games right away, only a few games worth the money are out at the moment imho anyways, pgr3, condemed, doa4 and oblivion (not my thing but if you're into that kinda thing i've heard many good things) oh and ghost recon came out recently but i have't played that yet either.

and just to go against the grain for something to use for music/film (again would have to convert) would be an archos jukebox, a bigger screen than the ipod so better for watching things on, that and you don't look like such a tart wink
