Okay, I got a 100$ from my company, and have a extra 86 of "free" money I can toss into the pile... plus some savings for rainy day.

So,

On a few points.

1. I own a iBook with Wifi/Bluetooth/USB2, and soon will have one Windows box up, with USB (no wireless at all)

2. I do own a old gameboy, with games, and would love to get all the older realeases of Commander Keen, Doom, Wolfenstein 3d... etc.

3. Hackability/Fun

PSP Information:

Main Input/Output: IEEE 802.11b (WiFi), USB 2.0, Memory Stick PRO Duo, IrDA, IR Remote (SIRCS)

DS Information:
IEEE 802.11b (Wifi) only with adapter, no USB/Flash memory (that I can find out about).

DS Pros, I have some old gameboy games, and there are some other gameboys games I'd love to get.

PSP Pros, Movies, wifi/usb included, ability for adding in fun things (controlling iTunes for one), etc. General PDA work, and the ability to surf the web on it.

So, on top of that, can anyone recoomend other "fun" things todo with either system? Granted I'll be getting a new one, and appearently the v1.5 firmware doesn't allow much in the way of "adding" fun to the system.

Good games for either platform?

We hashed over this not too long ago. What I recall is that the benefit of the PSP is its versatility and the benefit of the DS was more games.

I own a PSP. I actually store photos. That way I can use it for mini-slideshows. And in a pinch, you can browse the web at a hot spot.

ja, that's what i'm finding online as well.

i know they are releasing some more interesting games for the DS inthe near future... like soem painting program and such.

but, might just get a basic sp, and buy a few oldschool carts for it. (Commander keen being one of them. mwhah)

Tetris DS

Animal Crossing: Wild World

Plus many more, and don't forget about backwards compatibility.

And seeing as how most companies won't be making UMD movies anymore...

I see the DS is a gaming device whereas the PSP is more like a PDA. I have a PDA and it plays games, movies, mp3s, pictures, has internet access and a whole mess of things that I haven't even figured out how to do yet. Plus, if you're getting a new one, that takes most of the reason for owning a PSP anyway. If you want a great gaming device for sports games, go with the PSP. If you want a great gaming device for most everything else, go with the DS. If you want something that plays games and does a mess of other things, go get a PDA.

You're asking the wrong guy; I've had my PSP for almost a year, and the only games I have for it are "Ridge Racer" (meh) and "Lumines" (the puzzle game pictured above; pretty much the best video game ever made).

Final things in... PSP (with sony being a jerk) isn't as hackable as it used to be... and the DS lite will be coming out soon enough.

So, for now I'm going to get the SP, which will let me get a few games with it. smile

Now if I can just find out how to get my macintosh to write to empty roms.... wink

Hell, if you want, i've got a PSP with the old V1.5 firmware that i'm trying to get rid of. I've got it loaded up with a bunch of emulators and ROMs.

if you have a laptop that you bring with you all the time (like a lot of us), a lot of the functions of a psp are kind of redundant. if you're getting a handheld for games, then you'd be better served getting the ds right now.

And finally, 186 dollars won't buy you a PSP unless you have an super-hyper-ultra deal from somewhere. Or wait until the SRP drops. It'd be enough to buy the DS twice over at the price I paid. (~90 dollars, used. Most places are selling 'em for 100 used, but it's close enough.)

PSP's only really killer games so far as I know are: Lumines, and the two Metal Gear Acid games. There's a few other miscellaneous quasi-decent games, and a few exciting things on the horizon, but nothing I'd go and buy it for.

DS: Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney (good luck buying it, though. I'm playing it from Gamefly).
Advance Wars: Dual Strike.
Super Mario 64 DS
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.
Animal Crossing: Wild World
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Meteos
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
Nintendogs (if you're willing to face the embarassment)
Tetris DS
Trauma Center: Under the Knife
Arguably Resident Evil: Deadly Silence.

And, of course, miscellaneous lesser titles. I haven't paid that much attention to DS previews (I'm still catching up on the list above), so the only standout upcoming thing I can think of is a brand new Super Robot Wars game, (also a GBA one), first time ever for American release.

The DS also has Super Princess Peach, which I've been madly addicted to recently (even though it's really easy), and the WarioWare games are pretty entertaining (WarioWare Touched is specifically for the DS, but Twisted for the SP is also a blast, it has a built-in motion sensor).

And of course, who could forget the wonder that is PictoChat!*

*Or as my super-mature friends and I like to call it, PenisChat. But seriously, what else are you supposed to do with it besides draw obscene cartoons to one another?

Seriously, DS like crazy.
I'm probably going to get a PSP at some point because I need to own Me and my Katamari, but other than that, DS has the better games at this point...and for a bit less money!

i heart my DS. so far the only thing that attracts me to the PSP is the Katamari game. which i can live without. for now.

to add to the list of fun DS games, Tamagotchi Connection: Cornershop is a BLAST (albeit a repetitive one; i like to play it before bed). double fun if you can get your hands on a v.3 Tamagotchi Connection (for the uber-nerd).

but yeah, the DS is pretty kickass. they're putting out a Guilty Gear game for it in the next month or so and that will hopefully be pretty neat.

k, I went and got a Graphite SP today, with wario ware twisted (love that damn game), and the 50th aniversay namco collection. smile

I'm going to wait for the DS Lite to come out, and get that... as the screen is 5x brigther then the current DS screen.... and smaller. wink

So, what other SP Games should I hit Up? (Already going to be spying out the Super Mario Advance... specifically 1 2 and 4, as three is "yoshis island")

Thanks all for the info smile

And now I wait a month or so for the DS lite. biggrin

Well, to be fair, there are certain things you can do with an SP you can't do with a DS. Hook it up to a Gamecube, say. Or run pre-Advance Gameboy games.

As far as GBA games: Advance Wars, Advance Wars 2, Fire Emblem, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Golden Sun, Golden Sun: The Lost Age, Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis, Metroid Fusion, Metroid: Zero Mission, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Riviera: The Promised Land, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

Those are ones I own or know to be good from personal experience. There's quite a few others that look interesting to me that I'm checking out (slowly) in ROM form, but the ROMs are on my other computer and it's not working right now, so I can't list them.

In case it wasn't evident: I firmly believe the GBA is the best thing Nintendo has ever made. (The DS may get there, since it's kind of "heir to the throne", but its 3D capability means, I suspect, that the era of 2D has gone again and may never return.)

I'm a gamer, so I choose the DS. As someone's already mentioned, I don't see the PSP as a games machine but more like a PDA which I already have.

When more games come out for the PSP which justify its price tag, I'll probably buy it, but not now.

I love my DS.
You can touch it... down there... wink
I customised it with an Animal Crossing: Wild World skin. Check it!

Now I'm going to go searching about for info on animal crossing, albeit I will say that is a cool thing you've done to your DS. smile

That's also something that crossed against the PSP, no games... or hardly any games frown

I'll definately check out those old games, and apperently metroid fusion, also has the original nes metroid on it... just 'hidden" some way... but, I am thinking I'm going to splurge more cash and get a good RPG for this thing, as that will give me something more to play about with. smile

Well, far as I have "heard" it's coming out in a month, and this is "free" money ... and just wanted todo something frivolous with it. Plus I don't know anyone else with a DS, so using games with them, or pictochat can't happen. Which sucks, because I know how immature my friends can be, and it would be handy.

I'll still end up getting one, but only if I really get back into portable gaming, and for now, I have enough gameboy games to get caught up on.

I've only had an original gameboy, since the early 90s.
