No matter how often I read about these atrocities, attempted or fulfilled; I feel nauseous and tearful. I knew the Nazis conditioned themselves to think of Jews as sub-human (hence their term, Unter-Menschen) but it is beyond me how they could actually achieve such an horrific disregard. It is extremely distressing to read about people being described as 'the load'.

It's similar to the Japanese camps of WWII. They referred to the prisoners there as 'logs". So whenever an experiment was run on them, it would read that the experiment was performed on logs, not people.

Wouldn't surprise me. During WWII Iraq and Iran were pro-nazi. Germany planed on making it to the Mid East to meet Japanese forces in India. In return for "not" being occupied by Germany, the governments of Iraq and Iran would not only offer their oil reserves but also their Jewish populations!

You have to think, If Germany had gotten the better of Britain and the U.S.S.R. and if the U.S. hadn't entered the war when it did, things in Eurasia and Africa could have been much MUCH worse!

I took a few classes on Holocaust studies in college. My professor told us a story one time about the suggestive power of words.

He told us about the time he was sitting in the locker room to his health club. Apparently, a new member who was not familiar with the facility cold not find his way around. He walked over to my professor, who was getting dressed, and simply asked him "which way to the showers?"

I don't think I have to explain to you the significance of "the showers"...and needless to say, my professor told us how he was paralyzed with fear...just by hearing the words.
