Lunatic skateboard daredevil Danny Way is going to try and fuckin' kill himself for our entertainment later today at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

Way, who last summer fucking jumped the Great Wall of China, plans to bomb drop the Hard Rock's big-ass 82-foot, 3-inch guitar sign tonight between 6 and 8. He was going to do it yesterday, but thunderstorms forced him to postpone. If you're going to die in such an awesomely public fashion you want to, uh, be dry and comfy, I guess.

Apparently, if Way pulls off the drop without converting the bulk of his tissue mass to raspberry jam, he'll set a Guinness world record.

He estimates his speed on landing could hit 70 MPH. The ramp being constructed for the event has 64 feet of flat bottom and a 24-foot quarter. He's totally going to launch himself over the lip and into, like, the stratosphere, isn't he? God damn, Danny Way. You are awesome.

If he lands at 70 mph, regardless of whether he lands properly or not, won't that break most of the bones in his body?

i think 70 MPH is probably an estimate of the top speed he could reach on the flat. i'm not up on all the new-fangled physics and book-learnin', but i reckon they'd have to fire him out of a cannon pointing down for him to actually land at that speed... god damn, though, 70 MPH on a skateboard, after a crazy drop like that... i'd freak and spaz out if i was doing 7 MPH on a skateboard, even if you wrapped me in pillows and marshmallow peeps. it's the truth! (please don't ask me how i know that; it's too traumatic.)

Dude, that's sweet. Heh reminds me of my child hood days, although I wasn't the most reckless person I know. One time my mate decided to bungie jump from a tree, he tied a bit of washing line type stuff to his ankle and jumped. Unfortunately being the dimwit he is he hadn't thought to check its elasticity, one 1/2 garrotted ankle later he made sure never to make the same mistake again. yeek.

i'm actually elderly enough to remember when evel knievel was one of the defining boundaries of manliness in the american south, along with bruce lee, dusty rhodes and muhammed ali, and that's exactly what i was thinking.

He should have done it. The only possible way to make this stunt any better is if he was struck by lightening right as he was launching.

i think the idea is that rather dropping straight down at the speed and going SPLAT, the ramp is intended to redirect all that vertical velocity into horizontal velocity.

picture it like rolling a glass ball down a curve instead of just dropping it so it shatters.

Hooray for publicity stunt skateboarding!

Edit: I forgot to mention he's doing this to launch a new 'extreme sports' based cell phone service. Rad.

mgh= .5mv^2
v^2=2gh
v=(2*82*32.2)^1/2
v= 72,67 ft/s
v= 49.54 mph

F=((160/32.2)*72.67^2)/24
F= 1093.36 lb

So he'll be travelling about 50 miles per hour and the centripital force of going down the quarter is about 1100 pounds or a little less than 8g. Good luck.
