Two pastors who hand out bibles at adult film conventions as part of their anti-porn efforts had a novel idea: put the phrase "Jesus Loves Porn Stars" across the covers of the books they hand out.

They hoped the phrase would help them with publicity and distribution, but unfortunately, their printer refused their request.

"Misleading and inappropriate," eh? Apparently, that whole thing about Jesus loving everyone as long as they accept Him (you know, that crazy stuff that people have been getting out of the Bible for thousands of years) is incorrect, and new bibles will reflect the new conventional wisdom that Jesus only loves a few select groups of people, as defined by the American Bible Society.

"Jesus hates you! Turn to page #__ to find out why!"

A book with that on the cover is sure to catch my interest.

But I heard Jesus wanted Dick Rockwell for a sun beam...

This could've been the start of a great set.

Jesus loves serial killers

Jesus loves crack addicts

Jesus loves child molesting Catholic priests

What's the betting they'd forget the word "child" on that print run?

I guess I am confused by the editorial sentiment here. You people think it would be prudent for the American Bible Society to print up bibles with idiotic slogans targeting specific groups to aide anti-porn efforts?

I don't really follow this logic. I suspect that if the group had requested the bibles to say something along the lines of "Jesus loved everyone" it would be less of an issue to the American Bible Society, though it is possible that they have a blanket policy regarding the labeling of the Bible. Either way, opting to not be a part of some stupid PR dog and pony show staged by a fringe anti-porn campaign seems a lot less problematic to me than it does to you.

As an agnostic, the ABS decision seems like the definition of integrity to me.

I think it would be prudent of the people that printed the Bibles actually followed the teachings of Jesus and not pass judgement.

I wonder if you'd say the same thing if they wanted to print "Jesus Loves the Klan" or something else. I don't think the ABS is saying that Jesus doesn't love Porn Stars as much as they're saying that the ABS doesn't love them.

I loled.

The Klan is an organization whereas porn star is not. So the correct example would be "Jesus loves racists (to over-simplify the Klan)". I think that would be fine. That doesn't translate to condone racism, but it is the teaching of Jesus.

The problem with the ABS's is they're promoting their morals over Jesus'.
