The arguments of the moral conservatives and feminists aren't that different, which explains why both groups have been anti-porn bedfellows.

Ahh, the moralist scolds are out in force. I love how it's always the people who have issues with porn themselves that want to ban it for all of us. They can't control themselves, so they want to take it away from EVERYBODY.

Actually, their arguments are substantially different, but I'm talking from a philosophical perspective, the only one I know on the matter. Also, i can't tell you why the arguments are easily refutable without either listing them and then refuting them, which is a monstrous assignment, or oversimplifying them. If you're actually interested in reading why for yourself then you can read "Why Pornography is Valuable" by James A. Gould which can be found in The International Journal of Applied Philosophy, vol. 6, no.2 (pg. 53-onward). Now if you want a feminist article on the pros and cons of pornography, try reading something by Ann Garry as she's fairly admamant on the subject.

Well I'm not going to place the honus entirely upon the shoulders of the nay-sayers because they have a valid point of view to be considered as well (although often couched in much whining or lost in the din of other less reputable voices) I would stress that it does come down to personal will power. It's something that often gets overlooked in this PC age we live in. And although it's easy to attribute that tactic to conservative sources (they do employ it) I am of the opinion that it started in the Democratic camp.

This comment amuses me no small degree and only serves to illustrate my point. It's the most double-faced acceptance of responsibility ever.

Waite, this guy wants to ban porn because (at least in his delusional mined) it destroys marriage, but if he outlaws porn, that destroys "my" sex life! Selfish selfish. I love porn, I have a lot of it and it has yet to ruin my life. I just don't share this guy's moral position on the subject!

Interesting post, and I'll get somewhat off the subject here by commenting, but I really don't think sex always involves "love, respect, domination, submission, power and humiliation"..... especially all at once!

Anyway, yeah, I don't understand why people and their wackjob religions are all so universally weird about sex. You'd think, with all the fervor and passion these people feel for "life" in all its forms, they'd be fucking up a storm to make more of it.

This all boils down to the gov't not really getting much of a piece of that 12 billion dollar pie that was tossed out there, in some cases they make a bit of sales tax on the sale of dvd's or videos, but with most of the porn being purchased online these days there isn't much tax money changing hands as far as sales taxes goes, so I think they are just upset that they have lost out on that piece of pie.

Its the bible thumpin' morons from the south that seem to think that porn is the be all end all to society and that it is destroying the fabric of life and family the same, but I am sure in there own bedrooms we would find mags and videos that they watch behind closed doors themselves, so they are a bunch of hypocrits!!

Oh, and I am a pornographer!! So not only do I love it, but I contribute!!

What I hate about the anti-porn crowd is that they make these spurious claims about how it ruins marriages, or is responsible for crime, all of which is bullshit, and then the onus is on US to fucking refute it! It's absurd!

Well, I say we play that game - I'll start:

to prove you wrong we would need to have a group of people with various different types of cancer but who are all exactly the same in every other sense. (i.e. a group of identicle twins with cancer) we then subject one twin to porn 24/7 and the other to no porn. We would have to do this for a set period of time.

This person needs a glass of shut the fuck up, NEWSFLASH, as scary as this thought is to me (seriously, we're talking cold sweats in the middle of the night) people make these choices of their own accord. You can't blame porn for breaking up your marriage, blame the fact that you were in all probability an incompatible couple and at least of you was definitely not satisfied enough to remain monogamous.

Secondly the latter half of this particular gem was supplied by someone who in point of fact makes money out of couples getting divorced, a lawyer no less.

Bah, I could go on but there's really no need, as usual I'm disappointed and annoyed at the stupidity of some people.
