"I was just at my psychiatrist and I said, `I just got great news: We hit the 4 million mark. And I'm angry. It should be 20 million,'" Stern told the magazine. "It's insulting to me that everyone hasn't come with me. I take it personally.
"I want to say to my audience ... `You haven't come with me yet? How dare you? We're up to wild, crazy stuff, the show has never sounded better. You cheap bastard!'"
David Lee Roth, Sterns east coast replacement, also admits frustration. Since taking over Sterns post last February, Roths ratings dropped steeply as he faces constant criticism. Roth was briefly pulled from the airwaves last month, returning with a radically different format, as directed by bosses at CBS Radio. D-Ro, concerned that CBS could void his contract if he deviated from the new format, acquiesced half-heartedly.
Down to just his board-op Hutch as the only other person in the studio, Roth said he was facing "disciplinary action" if he didn't adhere to new "an entirely new format" set forth in letters issued by CBS Radio, which included talk without music beds, more discussion of currents news items, and the introduction of sports as a topic of conversation.
Roth hinted that CBS wants to duplicate the formula and success of the old Howard Stern show.
"I wouldn't be surprised if they bring in a gal to read the weather or read the traffic," Roth suggested. "If I didn't know any better I would say they are trying to sabotage the deal, but I know they fully support and love me." He later added, "[CBS Radio CEO/President] Joel Hollander did tell me I needed to be flexible, but I didn't know he meant I would need a lubricant."
Coincidentally, Daves bitching about management and format undoubtedly reminds us of Howard.

Have you subscribed to Sirius Satellite Radio yet? No? Well then, Howard Stern fucking hates you.
Stern can hug a dick. He's a hyporcite and a child. I hope he and Sirius fail miserably, causing them to reneg on his $50 million dollar contract. He hasn't been funny since the late 90's and his admitted censoring of other on-air personalities with his company makes me want to piss on him.
HA! Take that you loudmouth ass.
When you do your damndest to appeal the the trashyist audience in america, you can't expect them to to fork out big bucks when you decide to go private.
What did you think they were really loyal to you?
People like that only want things for free.
I kill David Lee Roth every night in my dreams because whenever I hear one of his stupid, obnoxious songs, solo or Van Halen, it gets stuck in my head for weeks... I wish misery upon them both.. Muahahaha!

Asshole.
+1
He complains and complains about being censored while at the same time went through company back channels to piss and moan about any other infinity DJ who made fun of him too much. Boo Hoo Hoo, Stern demanded they be censored consistently every time they said his name.
So he gets exactly what he deserved.
Out here on the west coast the Adam Corolla show sucks major balls, but it is still much better as a multi-market morning show than the wine and cheese-fest that Howie became.
I pay for Sirius and listen to Howard.
Its funnier than ever. And he is nothing but happy at the number of people who have signed up. Sirius went from 800,000 subscribers to 4 million in about a year.
And its easy, if you don't like him, don't listen.

ZING!
also: Howard Stern Fucking hates me. Oh... no. My life has lost its meaning and chocolate only tastes half as sweet.
I didn't like the Stern show when it was free and when in a friend's car listening to the new show I still didn't like it. So I turned it off and was happy with the idea that I could stop hearing about poor howie's bullshit now that he was happy. Guess not.
Listen Howie, you stop being a self-promoting fuck and grow the stones to let others challenge/do whatever it is they do concerning you and I'll give you a shot. Deal?

I understand how he veiws the whole thing as only the cost of a cd or a dvd a month but he forgets about all the equipment you have to buy. They dont even have a protable device where you can listen to satellite on the go. I'm still a huge fan and I might join him one day.

It's a weird comment. It really sounds desperate, like he doesn't know what to do to bring people over. Calling them "cheap bastards" won't help, I don't think.
I've seen figures, nothing official, that after being outsold by Sirius in December and January, XM outsold Sirius once again in February and March. I wonder if the hardcore fans have their receivers now, and there's very little interest outside that core.
I mean, yeah, in the main, I think it was a deal Sirius had to make, and I think that they've gotten a nice chunk of Howard's old audience, enough to make it worth it, but if Howard had illusions of having as big an audience as he had on terrestrial radio, they're being stripped away as we speak.
I did like listening to him before, but just don't really have a long enough commute or reason to purchase satellite. Plus, part of the charm of the show for me was the creative ways they would have to find to put sexual terms and such. I think raw, it would just seem ridiculously stupid. I could be wrong.
Roth sucks! As does the whole new 92.3 format IMHO. But Roth in the morning is horrible, though I will admit since they took him off the air the first time it is not as monotone as before. But he thinks he is so funny, even though his jokes are not.
I will eventually join the revolution, especially considering they re-air the show a couple times later in the day because I always only got to hear like an hour when I remembered to listen. I was always a fan of the E! show as well.
I don't think Howard was serious with what he said. I'm sure deep down he's a little bitter that not even half of his hardcore fan base followed him but anytime money is involved, people are guaranteed to lose interest. Just watch how the ratings for Monday Night Football will change now that it's on ESPN...it's just basic cable but I would bet money that the ratings will be horrible compared to what they used to be.
Let howard know that I am a little too focused on building on my own fame and fortune right now to give a fuckwit about Howard Stern's old fart and stripper jokes...
i think its funny how much people hate him.
entertainment weekly (haha, real journalism) spins a quote and everyone takes it serious. at least everyone is doing what he wants, talking about him. a million new subscribers in the first quarter. he's moving units and bringing subscribers to an amazing service.
id pay double the monthly fee for my sirius radio subscription, the content is totaly worth it.
