According to Rolling Stone, Courtney Love has taken a bold step to end her current financial crisis by selling off 25% of her shares in Nirvana's music catalog. The buyer is Larry Mestel of Primary Wave Music Publishing, who has reportedly paid over $50 million for the rights.

Courtney, who has controlled 98% of the band's publishing rights since the 1994 suicide of her husband Kurt Cobain, says not to expect a Revolution redux.

"We're going to remain very tasteful, and we're going to [retain] the spirit of Nirvana and take Nirvana places it's never been before," Love told the magazine.

"I took on a strategic partner, Larry Mestel, to help me co-manage the estate because it was overwhelming," Love said. "The affairs of Nirvana are so massive and so huge, and they've all fallen on my lap.

"I own almost all of [the publishing]...and it proved to be too much for me. I needed a partner to take Kurt Cobain's songs and bring them into the future and into the next generation. And this guy's the guy to do it," she said.

Mestrel says he also has no intention of harming Nirvana's musical integrity.

"My goal is to keep the music very true to who the songwriter was and what his passions and tastes would be," Mestel says, "and to work through Courtney to figure out exactly the best way to go about exposing his music to a new youth culture to a new generation."

To be fair, the "psycho" hasn't exactly been using the songs in ads, or in movies, or really done much with them at all. Which is kinda cool...

also, controlling the "Publishing Rights" is a lot different than owning the actual performances.

Too bad she didn't sell it off to Dave Grohl or any of the other Ex-Nirvana guys. You know, the guys who ACTUALLY MADE THE MUSIC, not just latched onto Cobain and sucked the life out of him,

We can thank Michael Jackson for putting the Beatles in commercials.....I think she may just do what she said....keeep the integrity of the music. She could have done much much more with it by now....unless she has just been lazy........still she can never get a album like live through this written again sinc the writer is dead.

Right now they're using Johnny Cash music for a Comfort Inn/Choice Hotel ad.

I won't ask how they plan to go about "exposing his music to a new youth culture to a new generation" but one can't help but wonder....

Jesus Christ, people...it's not like they're going to use the Mona Lisa for toilet paper. It's Nirvana. Sure, I loved them growing up. I have their cds...and still enjoy them. For fuck's sake, though...pick your battles.

I always thought that the first time I heard Nirvana on a classic rock station, that would prove I'm getting old. It happened 2 years ago, when I was 25. Nirvana should be required listening for this generation.

Christ, is it too much to ask that people actually click the fucking links in the story. You know, the ones that say Michael Jackson was not solely responsible for the Beatles being in commercials, and that he couldn't stop the songs from being in those commercials?
