Gwyneth Paltrow shocked diners at a sushi bar in NYC by downing a bottle of Guinness. Why is this shocking? She's five months pregnant with her second child.

The actresses' husband, Chris Martin of Coldplay, exited the restaurant to grab a couple of bottles of the irish beer at a nearby deli.

"People were looking and waving, and she just tried to melt further into the corner," according to one witness, who said she ordered salad and what appeared to be sushi.

Gwyneth's representative admitted that she drank the beer, but claims she consumed cooked food, not sushi.

Big no-no. Really, there is a large list of fish that are not for consumption. Also, eating raw fish increases instances of bacterial infections and other gastric disasters...

But chicken sashimi is perfectly ok for pregnant ladies. Remember that next time you take one out on the town.

OK, so she had sushi, perhaps. Obviously the alcohol in the beer was to kill the raw fish germs, duh!

I don't think she's pregnant at all. It's all a cover up for the fact that she has an enormous beer gut from drinking all that Guinness. If only I had that good an excuse! frown

doctors used to tell women to drink guinness when pregnant becuase of the protien and iron in it, has the lowest calorie and carbs for a beer and as said above not that much alcohol.... Now when I say docs used to tell girls this, I mean back when my grandma was having kids and being that shes irish she did and my mom did it and we all came out fine, mym other said she drank two 8oz glasses a week and well the only side affect is that we all grew up to be drinkers... though I don't think that had anything to do with it.... confused

When my cousin was really underweight while pregnant the doctor gave her a list of things to eat and drink, Guinness was one of the things. Lots of iron apparently.

It's probably not the most responsible thing to do, but having one beer is not going to be that big a deal, ultimately.

My mother and several aunts are nurses and would often tell us young uns about patients loading up on guinness for the iron before being admitted.
