NPR's Alex Chadwick offers an audio interview with Jessica Morgan, co-creator of GoFugYourself.com, which recently won a bloggie for best writing.

The site features less-than-flattering pictures of celebrities, along with some very funny captions and tongue-in-cheek advice to celebrities who have crossed the line from ugly to "fugly."

I've never seen this site before, but for the life of me I can't imagine why this site would win anything at all. HEY GUYS THIS CELEBRITY DOES NOT LOOK SO GOOD IN THIS PHOTOGRAPH AND I AM SAYING THE WORD "FUG" A LOT FOR SOME REASON. I was sort of embarrassed reading it.

I think it helps if you actually care what celebrities wear.

It might, but even then it doesn't seem particularly clever. I did see one thing that made me smile: a dialogue between Sharon Stone and Lindsay Lohan. But that was the only thing that struck me as funny. The rest was just, "Man, she looks totally fugging fugged fugly fug fug fug fug fug. I would never fug her. Fug that bitch. Get it, we replaced the word 'fuck' with 'fug' which stands for 'fucking ugly.' Thank god that joke will never grow old!"

Pfftht. They're certainly no alyk and lilyk.

Hell, even the blog mentioned in this thread is better than that crap.

I mean, come on...

...you're knew all along that your last two films were crap...

That won an award for best writing?

Sorry, it's a very funny site. I'm not sure what parts you guys are reading where they just make a crack and use the word 'fug' over and over again. In fact, in the first three articles there, I count the use of "fug" maybe 3-4 times, so I'm really not sure what the 'fug' you're talking about. Check the Britney section for some laughs.

This, for example, is damned good:

Okay, first of all -- oh my God, I'm seriously so embarrased -- first of all, I don't know what's going on with that lion's head rug thingie, because for one thing, there weren't any rugs in the room where I had the baby and for another thing, if Cedars Sinai even HAD rugs, I really don't think they would be rugs with heads because don't you think that would scare the baby?

Also, regarding the use of "you're" in place of "you." If one typo made for inexcusably bad writing, this site would explode.

Edited for. . .TYPO!!

I may be exaggerating the use of the word "fug" because it makes me violent for some reason, but the healines all seem to be "Fuggifer Aniston" and "Fugsay Fughan" or some variant. But that quote isn't very good at all. I'm not trying to be snobby - funny is funny - but the quote you posted is the funniest thing I came across on the front page and it didn't even register a change in expression from me. I can't see any humor at all in most of it.

Fair enough. But it might be because you don't like the subject matter: Making fun of what celebrities wear. That's what the site is for. It's sort of like complaining about a sports blog "being just guys talking about sports."

Also (and this is more for bean than you), the blog didn't win for "best writing" but for "most humorous" and it actually came in as a runner-up to dooce.com. Which is a very good blog, but one that I don't find very hilarious.

Ah. I still think the writings of alyk, lilyk, and the blog mentioned in the thread I linked to are funnier, but in light of this new information, I'm not outraged about the award.

Meh.

The thread you linked to was mine biggrin And, yes, that's a great site. I think Lilyk and Alyk are big Fug fans. And I've been an L & A for some time.

I will color you no longer outraged, but meh-raged.

I don't really have any interest one way or the other on celebrity clothing. Sometimes they wear really stupid outfits and that amuses me, and I have in the past enjoyed those sorts of fashion critiques. I suspect I'd rather it be...I dunno, a bit more silly? Or perhaps more offensive? Something. Right now, I think it for the most part reads like a slightly edgier, fashion-themed Jay Leno monologue. Though I did go back and find a few more things I thought were mildly humorous. And the Lohan/Stone thing was very funny.

I wouldn't have bothered to respond to this, but I did want to say that it's not simply the topic.

Edit: Jesus Christ, I actually wound up editing the phrase "more sillier" into this. frown

I'm guessing a "bloggie" isn't a much sought after award. It was like a 4 year old who just discovered a word that makes everbody laugh...
