I'm sure a lot of you know what it's like when you try to bleach out black hair dye.

My hair feels awful - it's in very bad condition, and I've tried a few deep conditioning treatments but nothing is producing very good results so far. I'm definitely staying away from dye and bleach for a while - My hair is currently black with some brown and copper. (I had to get rid of the bright red for job interview purposes).

I'm wondering if anyone could recommend anything to stop my hair feeling like straw? Any advice appreciated.

This is a tough one. After my perm started falling out I had a similar problem. One of my stylists recommended a placenta based hair treatment or something meant for the hair texture of African Americans. I tried the placenta treatment and it did a good job for a few days but then I didn't really like how oily it got so quickly. I never id get a chance to try the other treatment type.

Right now I used the Pantene Pro-V Hot treatment once a week and I'm loving it

I think you need protein. This type of treatment should be used no more than once per week as overuse can lead to even more breakage. I go to Sally's and buy a treatment by L'Oreal. It's called Nature's Therapy or something like that. Wash, towel dry, leave protein treatment on for at least ten minutes, rinse, condition.

I just put rich conditioner on my dreads .. and leave it. Seems to make it feel better. Also I wash my dreads every other day when I've bleached them with conditioner only.
Now mine are super soft and my hair hasnt thinned at all.

Hiya!

I used to bleach my hair like you wouldn't believe. I soothed my straw-like hair by getting my favourite conditioner and adding 12 drops of Carrot Extract, preferably CO2 Carrot Extract. I get mine at Aromantic.co.uk. Leave it in for a good few minutes then rinse it out. It won't weigh your hair down and it will stop it from oxidizing further. Don't worry that it's orange in colour - it won't colour your hair!

It also helps to stay away from Sulphate-based shampoos, so invest in a brand like Komenuka Bijin at an online store (just Google to find a store that stocks it). It's a little pricey, but I swear it's the gentlest shampoo I've ever used!

Hope this helps, honey smile

Do you blow-dry your hair? My mother does hers and her hair feels like straw, too.

I don't know, I just usually go to the salon for big kind color changes like this.
Whatever they do helps a lot.

Afraid so. I don't have enough time to let it dry naturally, plus, it's pretty long so takes an absolute age to dry and drips everywhere no matter how well I towel dry it.

I'd also recommend Aveda Sap Moss shampoo and conditioner, as well as their styling treatments.

Ever thought of going for a cute pixie hair cut or bob, etc? If you can brave the chop it could let you grow out your hair anew and cut down on all that laborious long-hair maintanence.

I had to go in for the Big Hack when my hair did a mutiny on me wink

Theres a new shampoo out but i forget the name of it, but the advert catchphrase is 'cashmere touch, mirror shine' I'm sure you've seen it. Well, wash ur hair with the shampoo and then towl dry your hair so its just damp and put lots of conditioner on it and leave it for about 25 mins. Does the trick for me. I'll go find out the shampoo name.

The only time my hair ever got damaged was when I singed it with an open flame, but my solution was just to cut it all off, which I'm guessing wouldn't really work for you.

I also dry my hair -- every day.
I love this stuff: Beyound the Zone: Flat Iron Protection spray. It protects your hair from the heat.

I love it.

Also, check out the Hair group and do a search for damaged hair. You'll find loads more info. kiss

See, I would hack it off, but it's taken SOOOO long to get it to this length and I just know I'll regret it straight afterwards. I'm a fan of long locks wink

I managed to buy some of that L'Oreal Nature's Therapy, from the US eBay as it doesn't seem to be available here in the UK, and I'll have a browse for other products mentioned too, and also check out that group.

Thanks so much for the advice everyone!

Once you go black, you can't go back confused

I don't know how girls like ashlee simpson or kelly osbourne did : one day they have black hair, and next day they bleached her hair so well that it turns white.

I know what you mean! I've been able to 'go back' many times, but it's taken a lot of time and effort to do so.

I want KO's stylist! wink
